Volunteers willing to help out for a couple of hours sitting on polling stations on election day to ensure that the election runs smoothly.
It's a great opportunity to be part of the democratic process in Southport.
If you're interested then please email and confirm what times you would be available on May 2nd, the polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm and any time you can give would be greatly appreciated.

This is NOT to help the election run smoothly it is to harass people at polling stations on behalf of the Conservatives.
The election is run by paid staff employed by the council.

Correct all polling station staff are paid by the council, some full time staff, some temporary, plus the entire staff of each polling station are in place for the total time of polling, never heard or seen anyone doing a few hours at a time, apart from of course canvassers and pollsters, who can be very much an interference rather than aiding the smooth running of an election.

I received this same misleading garbage in an email from southportconservatives.org stating that I was on a list of their volunteers. My only contact with them has been to respond to one of the MPs poorly written surveys and my responses were less than complimentary so my appearance on a list of volunteers can only be as a result of a misuse of my personal data under GDPR. They have been reported to the Information Commissioners Office.
It should be made clear in this article that you would be volunteering for the Conservative Party to ask voters for information that they have no obligation to give to you.

Yes, what a misleading ‘news’ article. As soon as you click on the email link it can be seen the email is going to Southport tories. I don’t blame them I suppose. They’re going to need as much help as possible this election.

Some people seem to be getting their knickers in a terrible twist over not very much here. If you don't want to give your number to some old fart wearing a blue rosette then don't. It's not compulsory.
As for the Tories needing all the help they can get at the moment, if that comment's from a Labour supporter then it just goes to prove that contrary to popular belief irony in this country is not completely dead. Thank you for the laugh.

Have you seen the way some of these characters operate outside polling stations? they very often give the impression that they are there in some official capacity, which they most certainly are not, very often close to harassing voters, the worst example I've seen was a UKIP canvasser, we told him to stay clear of the area altogether or we would report him to the police, must add did polling duties for a number of years with WLDC.
