A Liverpool shoplifter with designs on an expensive designer handbag ended up with broken ribs after being 'arrested' by an alert Securicor guard at M and S in Southport yesterday.
The man, from the Anfield area, was trying to steal a £100 handbag by hiding it in a Boots carrier bag.
He was spotted by the guard, followed and tackled before he left the store resulting in his broken ribs, with the bag retrieved.

Since when did M&S start selling expensive designer labels?

Hope he is in pain until his trial and is sent to prison.

I always thought that whilst the thief was in the store he could always claim he was on his way to the check out. This guy was still in M&S. I will not be surprised to see the headline "Assaulted customer sues M&S security guard".

The intent was obvious but as he was still in the store has he stolen anything? Not for one minute siding with the alleged shoplifter but as you say with a good lawyer it could be M&S on trial!
