Damned if you do
Yet another situation where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't.
There is one lady beggar who sits on Lord Street. Up until recently she was partnered with a male beggar, sometimes with a dog. Though he has not been seen recently. They are both alcoholics.
Over the past year, this lady's health has visibly been deteriorating. When the authorities have been contacted the advice is that the person has to personally request help.
The thing is - is the lady's health deteriorating because of the additional funding from begging that pays for the alcohol, and if so should people give to such beggars? Or if the lady did not receive additional funding would she then take up drinking cheaper, but more toxic liquids and deteriorate at a faster rate? These people although not homeless, are in a similar condition as if they were.

These beggars need clearing from the streets, they do the true Homeless a great injustice.

Most of the time, it would depend on what mood I am in.

As a comedian pointed out "people tell me not to give money to homeless people because they spend it on drink or drugs. If I want to help them what am I supposed to do give them a cheque to top up their ISA"

Many / most on the streets are not homeless just beggars some of which are doing quite well out of it and would probably accept a cheque, the ones not doing so well are usually drink or drug addicts, anything you give them is just feeding their habit. Arrangements are in place for the homeless but for a variety of reasons some choose not to, you cannot help those who won't help themselves.
On morning last week I walked from Lord St to the station and back, I was tapped up 6 times for money, I didn't cough up but I saw One little old lady submit to the blackmail of 'not eaten for three days', they wouldn't be there if nobody coughed up.

Why do people give to the beggars. It is psychological. Some people feel better in themselves for having given to a beggar - it makes them feel that they are doing good for someone. Most often those you see giving to the beggars are either elderly people or young people.
I noticed that the new establishment will replace the other town centre establishment for the mentally disabled and will take patients from there. This is wrong - there needs to be both establishments, one place cannot cope with the numbers of people that need help.

Actually no! I have private care thank you! I understand that you were tough to deal with here in the UK so you were deported to Canada - is that right?
