A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "At 9pm yesterday evening (28/03) officers were called to the railway close to Formby after reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however a man in his 30s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

There was a fatal a week or so again "between Ainsdale and Freshfield" which, as we all expected, turned out to be the Fisherman's Crossing.
I am guessing this will prove to be in the same place.
These incidents are traumatic for those who see them, those who have to sort them out, and especially for the train driver.
It's a very well-known hazard spot, where there are gates and plenty of warning signs for those crossing. Crossing the line takes less than ten seconds.
So why does it still happen?
I know that sadly some will be suicide, but where they aren't, just how stupid can people be?

Definitely a suicide. There is no-one around that area, that time of night, in the dark. Poor guy, totally unnecessary loss of life May He Rest In Peace, and God Bless Him.

With all due respect - PLEASE close that crossing, I know it won't stop people killing them selves but it might make a few think twice.

It is a public rite of way and is used by dozens of walkers, runners and cyclists every day, I being one of them. It now has double opposing gates on both sides which are animal proof making it impossible to accidentally run onto the track.
If closed as you suggest that will not stop those who sadly wish to end their lives on the track, any more than a parapet on a bridge.

I completely agree. Fisherman’s path was a public right of way long before the railway line appeared. I believe any suicide is a tragic and brutal loss of life, but closing this crossing would only create the same scenario further down the line, and would also deprive visitors and users of Fisherman’s path an easy access point to one of this stretch of coastlines most beautiful area.
