    Pleasureland

What improvements would you like to see at Pleasureland?

Pleasureland could be an important attraction to Southport, but it lacks the vibrancy of a successful venue.

The external appearance of the whole fairground is less than welcoming, with shabby paintwork and a totally unkempt look of all the structures from the beach view point. The long term camper vans parked in the car park create the feeling that the fairground is just an add on for the amusement of the campers only. The entrance on the beach side of the fairground is small and lacks any form of enticement- yet it is where most tourists can be found in the summer months. On entering the fairground, there is a lack of brightly presented stalls, the previous cheerful stall holders have been replaced with very young staff more intent on their own issues than promoting their rides for the interest of the public, and there are few thrill rides.

By the very nature of fairgrounds - they do take a long time and huge investment to turn them into highly profitable concerns. But Pleasureland has now had twenty years to bring life an energy to Southport - it should be more vibrant than it is at present.

It's had more new rides added in the last couple of years than I care to count. New walkway on the beach entrance, with rollercoasters either side of it. Many attractions referbed over the winter.
Place is full of smartly dressed staff of all ages.

All done with very little to no backing/commitment from the local council. Hopefully this will be improved in the years to come.

20years? It only reopened in 2007 on a series of short leases that meant serious investment would have been a risk. Now they have a long lease agreed the serious investment will commence.

I don't recognise what you describe though. It's cleab, tidy and has improved year on year.

I was not aware that the fairground was on short leases - however, teh council previously published pals for the site which will make this an indoor leisure venue greatly reduced to what it is now.

Then come across to the fairground from the apron of the beach. You will see several fairground buildings looking very drab, with rust stains running down, and dirty grey in places. From the area as you are crossing the road toward the car park - the outside of the fairground is very untidy, certainly not welcoming.

I think Norman Wallace has done a great job. The place is clean, tidy and the staff all well groomed and courteous. There are new attractions being added right now and the guy needs a huge pat on the back for all he has done as let's face it the last lot left the place in s**t order and the Council has done nothing to assist the venture.

    .
    No they did not.
The plans are for expansion with both indoor and outdoor attractions.

Try and have a day off from spouting lies.

According to Sefton Press Reader - the proposals for Pleasureland as we know it now - is to have yet another Hotel building on the site, a museum and indoor entertainment. This is in accordance with Sefton plans for the site - See Sefton's Future.

Again I repeat, there are no lies and no-one has any reason to mislead you on this topic, there would be no purpose whatever. Everything that I have stated is either clear to see or the information is available on several web sites.

What it does mean is that Southport's attractions are to be reduced even further - that there will be even less reason for visitors to come to Southport. Which lends support that the proposed plans for the Town - is that it is to become a commuter area for Liverpool. This exact same event happened to a resort outside of London., in an attempt to make that a commuter area to serve the City. The area became very run down, shabby and crime increased considerably. It has taken almost forty years for that town to be reverted to that of a resort once again, where it now enjoys a very high number of visitors to the area and business is once again flourishing.

It was several years ago that I said that this was going to happen - if Sefton was really sympathetic to Southport - it would have taken great pains to improve the town and maintain it as a seaside resort. St. Annes has had the same 'Government Cut backs' as has Crosby. But they have managed to keep a lovely clean beach and attractions.

Best to get info. straight from the horse's mouth. There's no mention of a hotel or museum.

See the above link. Not only does the proposal increase & improve current attractions, an indoor facility will also mean year round business.

Good luck to Mr Wallace. He walked into the horrendous bomb site that was Pleasureland after its' closure, and with damned hard work/investment made a success of it. Not many people would have had his fortitude.

No it doesn't. Attractions will be additions to Pleasureland not a replacement. They are also taking over the closed Pitch and Putt site.

a radical transformation of the site, to deliver new indoor attractions, a revitalised amusement park and a new hotel
