Possible, but have not heard that one myself as yet. Even at 1.5m minimum safe distance - it would be wise to allow a little more (say 2m) to be sure.

Can't say they bother me that much. If they respect the rules of the road, all is good. If they pull d!*khead moves, I assume they aren't going to be around much longer, swear at them, and move on.
IMO they aren't half as annoying as pedestrians who just walk into traffic, particularly on any junction with Lord Street.
I could do without lycra-clad genitalia wobbling like a water bomb at my side window, but I do titter if there's not much water in there.
There are more important things to get angry at.

I frequently come across single bikes, or a pair of bikes in a single line or side by side. At weekends, when larger club groups appear, they are in the form of several pairs side by side....As long as the 'pack' keeps to the left of the centreline, I don't have a problem. Just wait until a straight bit of clear road and overtake.
First paragraph - B0!!0CKS - you are either - being deliberately disingenuous or - have never, ever ridden a bike!
Second paragraph - therein lies the problem - your mob cannot get it into their heads that, even riding two abreast, you can hold up a line of motorists on a country road for some considerable time and distance.
The more pompous members of the 'peloton' will opine - 'we're perfectly entitled to be here so they'll just have to wait'. That's when the problems start.
The more intemperate motorists overtake no matter what the hazard and the mamils think because they have a mickey mouse helmet and, are wearing lycra, they are somehow protected by a force field.
It would be like me walking starkers through Knowsley Safari Park's lion enclosure, with 2 pounds of rib eye strapped to me backside saying - it's ok - there's a stripey land rover over there if I need it.

I also have a bike that I use sometimes - I have had great fun when cycling. While maintaining respect of other road users, a cyclist is also able to do what car drivers cannot. Like - overtaking racing cyclists hogging the road, who get so p...d off with someone not dressed in cycling gear overtaking them - they panic like mad to catch up and they take even more risks in doing so.
Or those idiots who do wheelies in the middle of the road - I have cycled right close, about an inch away from them, at speed. They begin to wobble and then they drop the front wheel and have to move in to the kerb. That is funny! Or those idiots who ride in a gang in the centre of the road toward me - think it is funny to play dare - I just speed up and aim for the middle of them. Yes, cycling can be a pleasure.

Are people really expecting a group of say twenty riders to form one long single-file line? For one thing, riding like that would take twice as long to overtake.....And the rider at the front would be doing 30% more work for the entire ride than the rest, due to higher wind resistance.

Aw, come on now, in your earlier post you stated that you’ve never seen such an incident. Now your giving us precise details about what’s going on. Make you mind up.

British roads are for driving on - they are not cyclist racing tracks! The sooner these idiots learn that the better it will be for all. There are a good many racing circuits specifically for cycling in the UK - what if a racing car driver wanted to practice on our local roads?

I can only tell you what I see on W Lancs roads.....Groups of club riders on their weekend club runs. These guys are not racing, simply out with their mates doing something they enjoy, keeping their fitness levels up, getting plenty fresh air and, er, a little coffee and cake!
