I'd like to think they could contribute quite a lot to literacy, should one bother to use them.

Librarys are very useful but the best way to access information for most of us is the internet.
Once the butt of academia snobbery it is now embraced by them.
Having spent months in libraries searching for what now jumps onto my lap I celebrate Mr Berners lee and friends achievement.

You wish! How is it that homelessness is rife throughout the EU member countries? Is that to do with our Tory government too?

You obviously haven't been near a Library, you are relying on the memory of black and white films.

Hartlepool front has been regenerated by European money, it also has a thriving ship dismantling industry.

English Quotas, Scotish Quotas but who owns them and where are they landed? Not in England or Scotland.

Complete tosh the EU simply gave us a small amount of our money back.
Going back to the Napoleonic era to dredge up an insult to the current population is simply pathetic and illustrates the depths to which the remoaners have lowered political debate.

The town trades on the reputation and has erected a monument, probably paid for by European money.

The Spanish, The French, etc., - "If one considers the 73 different fish stocks which live in UK waters, the total EU quota was 1,920,915 tonnes, of which 585,211 tonnes was allocated to the UK (which also happens to be 30%)" The Conversation.

Yes homelessness is very much a problem across Europe, however this country has the 2nd highest number of homeless by numbers and by % of total population within EU countries, certainly Middle Eastern and African countries have extremely high levels of homelessness, but to the best of my knowledge none of these countries are EU members
You quote Nephrops (the Norway Lobster) as some sort of EU failure for our fishing industry, did you know for instance that Scotland is the largest producer in the world of this particular catch, that almost the entire quota allocation is to Scotland, there are fringe areas where this lobster can be found, but by far the largest catch area is very much in Scottish waters and allocated to Scottish trawlers.
Where they land and sell their catch is very much up to the trawler skippers.
You know or should know that our main fishing area for cod was very much North of us, surely you remember the Icelandic "cod war" when eventually we lost access to much fishing ground for deep water trawlers, that was probably one of the biggest reasons for fishing industry decline, pus of course many foreign companies adopted factory ship methods where the catch could be processed at sea, even packaged and frozen, ready for dispatch to shops on landing.
Our fishing fleet continued to land "fresh" at the fishing ports and frankly lost out on a great deal of business.

Your inference was clear trying to justify it now is hopeless.

Can I just point out... EVERYONE KNOWS WE PAY IN MORE THAN WE GET OUT.
That isn't the whole story though is it. Trade agreements, safety standards, freedom of movement, workers rights, security and just generally trying to get on has a big part to play too.

Blimey capitals must be serious,
If everyone knows why do we keep getting posts such as;
"The town trades on the reputation and has erected a monument, probably paid for by European money"

Their simply spending our money for us with some taken off for doing it.
Perhaps I could shop for you in Tesco for say 10% ?

Because it was paid for by money from the E.U. Simple fact really.
Where that money came from isn't relevant. It's a redistribution of wealth, It may come back to us or go to fund something in another country. No different to paying taxes with in our own country. It may come back to this town or go to another town which is seen to need it more. Kind of what our society is based on. Helping those more in need.
As I said, it's not just about the money. All the other things I mentioned are relevant too.
