... if you're happy with contributing to the slaughter of almost all male calfs, the separation of all calfs from their mothers during the time when they should be consuming their mothers' milk, the pumping full of hormones and antibiotics of female cows during their "milking years", and the slaughter of the clapped out cows for pet food when they no longer produce enough volume of milk. Not kind at all.

Yet we do it and that's fine. Nothing like double standards.

I'm more interested in how the animal is reared and where it comes from, and subsequently how it's carcass is treated than how it is killed. They have a much bigger imoact in how it tastes and how healthy the meat is.

Why are cows, sheep and pigs any different to any other animal? They still have feelings, they have intelligence - they behave just like your own pet. They are scared out of their minds when led to the abattoir, one behind the other, their eyes are wide with fear and they wet themselves. - If you don't believe any of that - go see for yourself!
No - come to think of it - cattle are not different to your own pet! There are people from many nationalities living in the UK now - several nationalities are very partial to dog and cat meat and it is much cheaper than buying cattle meat!

Wouldn't that be difficult to arrange?
I've yet to see an abattoir advertise an open day, and I've not noticed such a visit offered as an experience day gift option.

The discussion involved the killing of pre-stunned animals and non-stunned animals. UK law demands that all animals should be stunned prior to being slaughtered, while in respect for certain religious minorities, a certain number of animals are excepted from this ruling.
Several European countries have banned the use of Halal meat completely, while others use a method of stunning once the throat of the animal has been cut. In view of the new Animal Welfare Bill being introduced into Parliament today (Wednesday 26th June) which deals with longer sentencing for those who mistreat animals - should this bill also cover include halal processes? Should all the shops and restaurants selling such meat, place notices in the window so that people can make a choice?
ALL halal (NON stunned) Meat should by law have to be labelled as such, At the moment there is no such requirement on retailers to do this, several supermarkets have been caught out selling non stunned slaughtered meat (Halal) there are many EC ID numbers that identify the abattoir or cutting plant, This is being forced on us to appease a minority, These animals are stressed, this results in chemical changes that change the texture and colour of the meat, So spoils it to some degree

You're really twisted, you are! Would you really go if you were invited? It is rather gruesome!

Someone isn't very good at spotting sarcasm, Or spotting a joke.
I don't think anyone thinks an abattoir is a nice place. Yet that is where we get the majority of our meat. Are you saying they should be banned too?

TBH, if I found a veggie substitute that actually tasted like meat, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
I do try them now and again, just to see if food science has made a burger that doesn't have the texture of cardboard, but I haven't found one yet.
