Did you miss the title of the thread ?
Not wanting people or animals treated badly makes me a dinosaur ?
Far from it being an anti Muslim post I widened it to show that another faith practices similar post 13, keep up.

I wouldn't knowingly buy or eat halal meat but I suppose somewhere along the line I unknowingly probably have eaten it.
But it is only the tip of the iceberg really what next children being forced to marry someone they don't know ? It appears that religion is able to circumvent the laws of the land with impunity.

What should and shouldn't be accepted in society in the name of religious tolerance is a recurring theme on this forum. It was only recently that there were many discussions on this forum about the protests outside school gates against the teaching of RSE and LGBT equality.

Several European countries have banned the use of Halal meat completely, while others use a method of stunning once the throat of the animal has been cut. In view of the new Animal Welfare Bill being introduced into Parliament today (Wednesday 26th June) which deals with longer sentencing for those who mistreat animals - should this bill also cover include halal processes? Should all the shops and restaurants selling such meat, place notices in the window so that people can make a choice?
If it had had done, then people, for example the sponsors of the Bill, would no doubt be being accused of inciting religious hatred.

Errh post 3 (not mine) ;
I don't quite understand this. If your God gave us this planet to live on and made all the living things on it, why then does the God turn into an evil tyrant that wishes to visit cruel punishment on other people or animals?
Keep up this is getting tedious.

No mention there of classing them as second class citizens, but yeah just as biased a view point.
We have a very short memory of our own history when it come to things like this.
things like this maybe?

Mind you it was an E.U. law so I guess they will be able to revoke it soon.

I guess when it comes down to it, whether we are talking about people or animals, certain cultures and religions treat both with little respect. I'm not just speaking of Muslims or Jews. Fundamental Christians are probably he least 'Christian' people you could meet.
Animal cruelty. Allowing children to marry grown men. FGM. Circumcision without a medical necessity. All abhorrent. Not all, sadly, against the law.
We are a secular 21st century society. Whether you're 300th generation, trace your family back to the Iceni, or a recent addition, our laws and societal norms should be respected first. All those things I've mentioned, as far as I'm concerned, should be against the law.
Of course we are a country that celebrates religious freedom. So we should. And I'm perfectly entitled to consider some aspects of those religions are barbaric. I can't see any reason in our society to chop bits off babies or be cruel to animals or people. Especially not in the name of some books written thousands of years ago, with no relevance today.
I know we certainly aren't without 'sin' when it comes to the treatment of animals. Industrial farming isn't exactly sending them off to peaceful deaths. And if we had to kill them ourselves, most of us would be instant vegetarians. But things are improving. EU directives are in place to stop animal cruelty. For now. But some religions force an extra aspect of cruelty on other people and animals.

Absolutely nothing, I do have issues with people thinking they are better than someone else because of their religion.
There are lots of things we do that I'm sure other religion find disturbing. Abortion for one.
Fact is we are all different, and all have just as much right to our beliefs as anyone else. There are extremists in all sectors of society.

The right to discriminate against, badly treat and be downright cruel is not one I support.
Hiding behind any religion or cultural difference to do it, does not get my support either.
and no I don't think you ever have a right to do it.
