I love southport BUT.......
Long time lurker but here's to a first post
So I love Southport and I get annoyed at the bashing it receives from a number of local's
However, sometimes we don't do ourselves any favours as a town.
I've driven down Lord street this evening to find a large number of stalls being erected..
Why??
I've spent the last 30 mins on google trying to find an answer
Now its obvious they are food stalls etc. But nothing on seftons "whats going on" nor the BID site nor OTS.
Are the marketing dept on holiday.
If I can't find it easily how the hell are day trippers or holiday makers supposed to know whats going on..
Obviously I shal retreat back into my little cave if it turns out my Google fu has failed me and its posted everywhere.

Does a Marketing Department even exist? There never is any information published nor any advertising for the few local events we have. As far as I recall there was something similar a few years ago along Lord Street - but it is a really weird night to put up stalls if there are no attractions going on.

There is a Tourist Information desk in the Atkinson - not that it is advertised, so no visitors know it is there!
I am always banging on about how difficult it is to find out what is going on in Southport!
The visitsoiuthport website (the official what's on) only publicises council-organised events.
I'm sure QLocal could pick up a lot of extra users if it had a reliable and up to date What's On page.

Welcome to the Qlocal forum, Cave dwelling Lurker! I feel that 'Cave Dwelling Lurker' is a far more interesting name than 'Town Centre', but each to their own. If you'd have put 'Chap' at the end of your name we could of been related... I digress. On to topic!
I, like you, am also fond of our town. There are times when I don't like it at all, but that's usually my own fault for being too hard on the old girl. For a town of 100,000 she does alright .
As for the marketing of, er.. markets, I think the footfall on Lord Street during a summers weekend warrants any good reason not to promote too much. Thousands will walk along Lord Street this weekend, (weather permitting of course), and they will all see the stalls and hopefully part with their dosh to make it worth while for the traders. I believe last time around was very successful. I got talking to a Belgian waffle stall holder and we waffled on for at least 20 minutes about the turn out and interest in the market. Anyway, that's just what I think. Some people would agree that these types of events do need more promotion, and they could be right!

Welcome Town Centre
When I saw the stalls being erected last night, I assumed they'd move the continental market back to Lord Street. They put it on Chapel Street for a few visits, but it mustn't have been too successful. A bit like the 'Christmas Market', same old stalls that are always around, just in wooden huts.
I am partial to a large spicy sausage though, so I might have a stroll round for one of those.
