A mobile is not the universal excuse for every accident.
You are kidding right? It happens every day. Not saying it's the cause here as that would be as bad as PNP saying it was speeding. But it certainly happens a lot.

As I live in Southport and have done ALL my life I must be some sort of lucky charm as I have driven down Eastbank St thousands of times without incident as I have done all over Southport the UK and abroad without managing to crash into any other road user. The one thing that puzzles me is I seem to be able to negotiate my way along roads in a vehicle but still can't master the picking of winning lottery numbers, although my savings on Insurance must add up to a tidy sum.

I believe from what I have been told that a Land Rover pulled out of a parking space without checking behind him, collided into an oncoming car, shunting it into a bus.
There was a car in a Loading Bay which is exactly where he shouldn't have been. So its no one else's fault but his own. Plus he was parking against the flow of traffic so must have pulled in from the Wellington side of Eastbank St to achieve this ridiculous position

The use of a mobile phone when driving is the cause of many accidents, I quite agree, but I feel due to the manoeuvring involved in this accident, I'd be very surprised if someone had the time to turn the steering wheel, look in mirrors etc., and use a mobile while doing so.
For whatever reason, sometimes we humans don't register when we see something coming.
It's a simple accident - end of!

How do you know that the Range Rover wasn’t legally parked in the loading bay, you know for unloading. Far too many keyboard warriors on here, telling us what happened, when in reality, they haven’t got a clue.

Loading bays are for delivery vans / lorries etc. Not for your average joe to just park up in if and when they feel like it. I see it at Birkdale Station when I'm passing by the fruit and veg shop near to Barrique. All sorts of cars in their loading bay...and the drivers all go off and do their shopping then lets just say the egg delivery or some other random delivery turns up and they can't park.

Clearly they didn't. Quite often they don't register things when they are distracted by for example a phone.
Anyway all subjective as no one on here actual saw the accident.

No, loading bays are for vehicles loading or unloading, the emphasise being on vehicles, be they cars, vans, trucks, or even horse and carts.

I fully realise that, but it doesn't stop motorised posters from bringing them into focus...Surprising how threads about bad driving can somehow become deflected onto the humble cyclist. E.g. it's not uncommon to blame a non-existent passing cyclist who then rode off - or in this case by including 'idiot cyclists'.
Fact is, those in motor vehicles need to check behind that it's actually clear, before either pulling away - or swinging open their door. Going by the type of vehicle involved, I wouldn't rule out it having tinted side and rear windows, which don't exactly improve a drivers visibility!

You may just find many loading bays are for commercial vehicles only, there have been cases where a shop owner rocks up in his/her personal car and gets booked for their efforts.
No idea what the status of the loading bays on Eastbank St are, but they certainly don't cover shoppers or customers of any description using them as a pick up drop off spot./

Show me one of your posts that criticises bad cycling? Vehicles pulling away not looking, opening doors, tinted windows...
What about cyclists...
- riding down Chapel Street when it clearly says No Cycling
- a majority (and granted not all) of cyclists ignoring red lights for junctions and for pedestrian crossings
- cyclists deliberately riding the wrong way down a one-way street,
- cyclists riding on a busy main road, (or any road for that matter) when there is a perfectly good cycle path for them
- riding at night without lights
- riding at night wearing all black clothing
- cyclists riding down the left side or a car and especially a truck then moaning when the get side-swiped cos the lorry cant see them as they're under his mirrors.
- Riding without wearing a helmet or even worse (and funnier) riding with the helmet dangling from their handlebars - as if they're gonna be able to put it on as they go headfirst into a vehicle or the tarmac!
Any more? Do any other posters want to add anything else they can think of?

It clearly says on the road markings, "LOADING ONLY" , which obviously means it's for that purpose. I would imagine that the deliveries to the chip shop park there on certain mornings when potatoes are delivered and other chippy supplies.

Sometimes accidents just happen no matter how careful you are. It's called Human Error. Hopefully, we learn from our mistakes.
A post in which the first paragraph is breathtakingly naive. If you haven't seen that sort of behaviour then you really should get out more.
I wonder - do you drive, have you seen people driving recently or are you living in 1953?
Both hands on the wheel, checking mirrors whilst not using a mobile phone - what a charming picture you paint.

I was driving along side a muppet in a Merc. last night on the Formby bypass. Texting while approaching the roundabout.
In fact I could have earned a fortune last night just going to Liverpool and back. Saw several van drivers on their mobiles texting and taking calls.
