But there again, this 'tugboat' has been designed as an off shore cable laying vessel and it has more than likely grounded itself as part of its cable laying operations, and will move off on a suitable high tide once its close to shore task has been completed.
Saw a documentary a short while ago of a similar vessel doing just that

They could have chosen a more versatile vessel then.

Considering this boat is parked on the beach precisely where the diggers were working, I think it's fairly safe to say it was grounded deliberately.
The wide range from low to high tide makes Southport beach ideal for this.

Rather strange that these cables that transmit 97% of information and generate £1 Trillion per day, are so well documented and mapped out. There is no security, no protection yet by cutting the cables could bring many countries to a halt.

There has been quite a lot of activity off of our shore in recent weeks. Roxane Z has been visible out on the horizon since early last week before coming much closer as she is now. Maersk Maker has also been just off the coast and was seemingly at anchor for a good few days earlier this month.
Incidentally, whilst on topic, this new cable that they are laying is said to be the fastest trans-Atlantic internet cable connecting UK to Northern Ireland and the US. With cyber security being so important to us, I am genuinely concerned that the cables route has been marked out so close to shore for all to see. I mean, if there were some 'bad guys' who wanted to upset our internet connection, they would only to dig a bit into the sand were marked and drop an explosive or something like that... a a bit far fetched perhaps but you know, cant be to careful these days.
