Strange answer for a married man. "My" house, not "our" house. Joining "your" neighbours, not "our neighbours". Not that you own your family, but no mention of the importance of their well being ?

Another strange answer. It's not a case of "holding their hand". In stressful situations such as this, families normally stick together. How old are your children?

Old enough to think and act intelligently in any crisis, and no, I do not own them they are their own people. They have shown on many occasions to be able to stand up for themselves and others when need be, and I have the utmost faith in them all.
Families stick together? Up to a point -unless someone else's need is greater.

So if you were given an order to evacuate, and you're all at home, you wouldn't all leave together? If they weren't at home, would you just call them and tell them where you're going, or arrange to pick them up? As I don't know their age, whether have their own vehicles, or can get to where you're you're going to stay temporarily, it's impossible to gauge whether or not they would need your help to get to the destination. Either way, I can't imagine that you would just leave without giving them a second thought, yet you didn't even mention any of your family.

Common sense tells that you would make your way to other family or friends. A quick message would be all that is required, and we are all mobile. If they could not make it to a destination then no-one would be able to make it, and would not even try.
Back to the subject. More than 1000 people have been evacuated and the situation is becoming worse. People have been allowed back to their homes to collect additional belongings that they need - but they most likely will not be able to do so again, until the dam is repaired, due to severe flood warnings. There are 400 people who have been accommodated in a school.

I did hear something like that, but I was not sure that it was just a joke! If that is the case - then I really do feel sorry for those people.

I'd rather be in 6 feet of flood water. It'd be far more comfortable and vastly more hygienic.

It was in MEN Whaley resident former MP Edwina Curry was complaining about The Palace in Buxton , I don't know if she was offered that instead of the Leisure Centre or whether somebody had raised it with her.
