A suspected paedophile from Portugal who was working in a London Street takeaway has been exposed by the SKO ...Safeguarding Kids Online group.

In a live video streamed on Facebook Leonardo Pestana was confronted thinking he was meeting a 12 year old girl that he had been grooming.

He was taken away by Police.

I understand that pedophiles should be stopped - but I do not agree with these vigilante groups for several reasons.
1. The manner in which they discover and confront a suspect - members of these vigilant groups have found themselves arrested for, entrapment, assault, etc., such cases have been thrown out of court.
2. The basis on which the vigilante groups act is 'Guilty, until proven otherwise' the law is clear, that everyone is 'Innocent, until proven guilty during a court hearing'
3. Why is it necessary to publish a picture of a person who may very well be guilty - but has not been proven to be so legally.
4. Why do vigilante groups claim these supposed successes publicly - is it to upload them on to utube etc., to gain profit from such sites? Why not just quietly inform the Police Authorities of their suspicions, so that the Police can investigate legally so it would stand up in court.
The guy in this report appears to be an illegal drug abuser and easily open to suggestion, he may be an illegal immigrant and have other problems. I am not acting to protect a criminal - but genuine cases being thrown out of court for wrongful procedural reasons do not protect the public.

The police should be doing this but probably do not have the funding. I followed a case in the USA where a mayor of a town was strung by police officers acting as a young girl and arrested when went to meet up and taken to court and sentenced. Information about the case was very public in the US with full transcripts of how he was grooming what he thought was a teenager, actually quite horrible to read how they operated.

Me too. I don’t normally agree with Said’s posts but he’s correct. Serious crimes like this need to be investigated by the police to ensure a fair trial that allows justice to be seen to be done. This is just cheap vigilante justice trying to get ‘likes’ on a Facebook page.

Not to mention the fact that by posing as children and engaging with them they are fuelling the desires of these perverts by making them believe there are children out there willing to indulge them.

Theoretically yes leave it to the Police but as the story says the Police do co-operate with some of these groups.

There is no such doctrine in English Law as 'entrapment' so I'm struggling to see how this could happen?
