Sainsburys have again been given planning for their new store in Kew , they had permission but had to reapply after they scaled down their original proposals .

One of the original conditions approved a couple of years ago said that if plans were approved, they had to start building work by September 2019. I'm not sure if this still applies but they don't have much time left if it does.

That was for the old plan, the new planning consent restarts the clock.

Yes, but isn't there some agreement where Sainsbury's in town have to stay open for five years at least?

You've not missed anything and and the same stuff is available in Aldi & Home Bargains, can't wait for the petrol station to open.

They've go a lease until who knows and they've got to pay the rent until then or a break point anyway,

That is what I think too! Where Sainsbury's is on Lord Street, there is little competition and even then it does not attract many customers. out at Kew, there is far more competition. Even if they sell petrol at rock bottom prices, it doe not mean that people will use the store.

I get home deliveries from Sainsburys or Tesco. Depends on their prices on any given week. Haven't got a car, so I'm not lugging around heavy shopping when they'll bring it into the kitchen for me. If I did have transport, I'd be at Aldi and Lidl. Excellent value at both. I can't figure out why anyone would pay top prices at other shops if you're driving down to Kew anyway.
I'll spend my loyalty points with Sainys and Tesco at Christmas, but the bulk of it will be from Aldi when my sister and I get the 'big shop'. Sainys is not value for money.

Would you not find it more economical to buy as you need it instead of one bulk buy? That way you would only be carrying a few items and would be able to go to any Supermarket. It is also better buying fresh produce that way, because this goes off so fast.

I find it cheaper, as I get exactly what I want rather than impulse buy. And I will impulse buy. It saves time too. I haven't the time to pop out every day to shop.
I get a delivery early in the week, then nip to get fresh veg etc later on. It seems to work for us, can prepare meals in advance (I hate 'ready meals'), and I've always got something in for unexpected guests etc.
If I had the spare time and lived near a reasonably priced store with decent quality goods, it might be different.

Don't blame the Council, they opposed it and after an expensive (for the Tax Payer) appeal Sainsbury won.
