Dropped kerbs,or lack of..

Just been down Forest Road towards town, to pick my car up from Favagers in Virginia Street,and was pushing my wife in a wheelchair, it was then we both realised the lack of DROP DOWN POINTS for ANY disabled persons to be able to cross at a junction of the roads crossing Forest Road,and I found it difficult to get the wheelchair down the kerbs to cross most of the junctions, and I was pushing,and lifting the chair to get across, so how does a disabled person,especially on their own,manage to get themselves across these junctions,easily and safely ? Thought the councils HAD to drop kerbs on junctions by Law ? Seems that Sefton Council has NOT done this over the years,if and when the law came in or if there was a ruling in place...Wondering how many other junctions crossings there are like this over the Southport area ? As this was just one road,with about 8 kerbs that were NOT lowered to assist a disabled person.

If it isn't law, it certainly should be.

That's terrible. Imagine the problems if a wheelchair user was on their own, without any assistance? Awful.

Totally agree jonny , and the council are legally bound to ensure that there are sufficient dropped kerbs to create easy use of wheel chairs . I have complained on a number of occasions to no avail .

I think the policy is to install drop kerbs and tactile paving when the paving is refurbished but with all the cuts the pot for these works is diminished.

If they are on their own, I'm guessing they go round to the nearest drive way and cross there.

Maybe the answer is less tax cuts for the rich and use that money to make disabled peoples lives better. (A novel idea I know but this won't curry favour with the tory party)

There is a fine line between getting the rich to pay up, and losing their money to another country. Unlike us they have the finances to move abroad at the drop of a hat and take their money, businesses and jobs with them.

I wouldn't disagree with you but the pendulum has swung to far the other way.

The world's wealthiest people aren't known for travelling by bus, but if they fancied a change of scene then the richest 85 people on the globe – who between them control as much wealth as the poorest half of the global population put together – could squeeze onto a single double-decker.

I think you'll find they already have most of it squirreled away.
