Operation Yellowhammer is the Conservative government's contingency plan to mitigate the possible consequences of a no deal Brexit. The government was actually keeping their plans a secret. If it hadn't been leaked in August, you probably still wouldn't have heard about Yellowhammer. On Monday MPs passed a motion for the government to publish the Yellowhammer documents, which is why you're seeing them now.

I'm sure someone could dig up the commensurate documentation for the millenium bug, failing to join the Euro etc.

It would be interesting to compare but it is good to see the government making contingency plans as it does for many aspects of life.

I bet many of us do the same with our own affairs.

You couldn't make such a change without planning for problems, there are bound to be some.

The issue is not why the Conservative government has a contingency plan, it would be sheer negligence on their part if they didn't have one. The issue is why have they kept it from the British people? Had an earlier version not been leaked, you wouldn't even be aware of it now. And you certainly wouldn't have seen the current version, although pieces of that have been redacted. Why is that? For a party who claims that a no deal Brexit will only have minor hiccups, why didn't they release their plan? And why, even now, aren't they letting the public see the full transcript of the possible consequences of a no deal Brexit?

I don't know why either. The consequences of a no-deal have been apparent for some time. Business leaders and industry experts have been saying the same thing over and over.

Perhaps if the government said 'this is what will happen', the 'it's just Project Fear' bunch would have to face the facts and might not be so keen after all.

Although going off the posters on here, they'd still refuse to believe it. Regardless of the source, they still think we can just leave on Halloween and sort out all those thousands and thousands of details afterwards. Without anything but the most minor inconvenience.

As with any major changes in life some will see them as opportunities others will see them as dreadful.

Some foods will be affected and if you have to have that exact item then you will be occasionally disappointed.

Some will see it as a chance to find new products.

Medicines are widely over hyped as going to be in short supply late or unobtainable, it is project fear in full flow, medicines without the hint of Brexit are often in short supply and as of yet the authorities have managed to keep the streets free of bodies.

In case of problems they will be flown in.

The main issue is the problems are largely short term and easily fixed.
