Charming, it does however say a lot about the people Damien surrounds himself with!

if you can then just vote for who would be best and the more people that do rather than the Lib Dem tactical nonsense the better as a Lib Dem MP is not the Wright choice for Southport.
Who would you suggest?

Depends what’s important to you really but I wouldn’t say that you had to bite same locally and nationally, possibly one of the reasons we have such a dysfunctional council is that the most publicity hungry see themselves as mini-mp’s and are incapable of working together unless it’s their idea and they can use it for political capital, Dawson and Shaw being prime example of this.
so for, me to have the best chance of making an impact locally it’s labour at the moment, there’s too few Tories and the Lib Dem’s have consistently failed to deliver.
nationally its much more difficult as labour seem to fractious and the Tories are also all over the place with the defections in effect making the Lib Dem’s “Tory lite” with one third of their MPs not elected as Lib Dem’s. The next month will really swing it either way for me but I’ve voted both over the years as I’m in no way a stalwart to any party other than do think the libs are useless and have taken Southport for granted.
and if anyone thinks the libs are better than the Tories, give them a coalition and they’ll be more Tory than a lot of the Tories,
John Pugh seemed to generally vote with the Tory whip too if a local context is needed, he also seems to be poor on LGBT rights (not very liberal!)

Many thanks for the reply, where do I start...………….
I gave up on political party's years ago, but as for what's important to me I would say the simple things most people crave:
1) A secure job
2) A reasonable wage
3) Safe streets
4) A roof over my head
5) A society which cares about people instead of money
I'll let you fill in the rest yourself

Great post and interesting reading. I like the distinction you make about politics on a local and national level which I completely agree with. Unfortunately though, I think the way our nation has become completely polarised because of Brexit, this is what will sway most of the electorate when it comes to a local or general election.

i guess you need to work out how to filter the noise of optics and statistics to work out whether labour or Tories will deliver that, personally I think the parties should look at spread of investment from south to north as that may lead to your 1 and 2. Some of the above would benefit from a functioning council and not just an extension of the Lib Dem ego.
However I wouldn’t expect the above from the libs as they’d do backflips to get into power again, as if this was last time how can you trust it not to be the same this time and can anyone actually name something either locally or nationally the libs have done for Southport despite all the bluster and noise. As John not-Wright-for Southport comes in from another area (when this seemed to be pivotal to why we should vote lib in last election) and thinks bashing bootle, attacking the other parties whilst having no ideas of substance himself, having a questionable memory of getting trains from Preston to Southport and he’s the answer to our problems and a golden plated job for himself with the added benefit previous MPs have used of renting offices off themselves to boost local party funds!
in terms of bringing jobs in, some may have noted their leaflets are printed by a German company, could they have not spent the money locally given the amount of bilge that will come through our letterboxes over the next week, it shouldn’t just be the bottom of the rabbit hutch that benefits!

The danger in this of course is what do they do after brexit, eg if the Lib Dem’s are a single issue party with a third of their MPs disgruntled Tories/labour they seem to have no plan and also no identity as you can be sure they’ll be edging their current candidates out to have safe seats for the “superstar signings” as they’ll lead you to believe.
Regardless of if brexit happens or not, there’s clearly a deep division in the UK that needs resolving, calling it a “people’s vote” or “people’s parliament” makes a mockery and is patronising given the MPs are elected by people and brexit was voted for by people and in the Theresa May rounds of votes so many abstained which most likely influenced the likelihood of no-deal, should have been a mandatory yes/no as abstaining is not representing the elective.
