Leo's Pub Nevill Street | Good lord, it's rough in there!

Back home from being away and have just taken a walk around the Prom and seafront, all very nice and a sight for tired eyes... apart from one part. The Leo's Pub! I've never seen anything like it, not around here atleast. I popped in to use the toilet, (Yes, I know pubs aren't public toilets but I had to go and I did buy a packet of crisps). The language of the bar staff was a disgrace, all the customers in the beer 'garden' looked like they had just got out of bed and there was a bunch of 'masculine dressed women' hanging about with a fag hanging out there mouths.. not to mention the 90's dance music shouting off the outside speakers.

Surely our town is no place for this kind of establishment, it's like walking past a live episode of Shameless mixed with Jeremy Kyle. Just Awful. I thought the Albert was rough!

If it offends that much, I wouldn't bother going in there again.

It isn't a place that I bother with. It is dog rough, I have to admit. But it's a popular place. I have no idea why, unless the beer is cheap.

As for the way people dress, I can't see what that has to do with anyone. Has 'Spoons got a dress code? Black tie only after 9pm in the Corrie?

Think positively, if all these undesirables are in one place, they aren't upsetting anyone else in all the posh pubs in the town centre. Just don't bother them and they probably won't bother you.

The outside is a good clue to the inside.

Aren't they waiting for the taxpayer to fix it up for them ?

According to some posters we have quite a few rough places, Peaky Blinders in Churchtown is oft complained about.

Those running the pub don't own the building but yes the owner of the building seems to prefer the council to intervene when it's state of disrepair becomes a danger to the public rather than address the issues himself. Claims not to be able to afford repairs.
Maybe it should be compulsory purchased from him.

Terrible shame, the state of the place. Some of the Art Deco features upstairs were lovely. If I were to worry about the impression it gives visitors, I'd start with the big green hairnet draped all over. Presumably to stop bits of concrete and stucco from killing passers by. I give it a wide berth on windy days.

I'm amazed it hasn't 'accidentally' burned down by now.

With this terrible pub being smack-bang-wallop in the heart of tourist town I just can't believe it is allowed to be kept running the way it is... it's as though somebody just slotted a flat roof pub from Skem into the ground floor of what was a lovely art-deco building. I was genuinely astonished about the place. Who are earth would want to go and sit down with a pint in there? My mind boggles.

*No offence to people from Skem, I'm sure there are some lovely, err...

As the building has been a slum for years why have the Council not condemned it and shut down the building, also why do the Magistrates keep issuing a licence to sell alcohol in a place like that.

I think you've answered your own question there. Magistrates don't issue licences any more - they are issued by the local authority, the same local authority that probably benefits from keeping the place open

I am so disgusted at the experience I had to endure whilst using the facilities in that pub that I have felt strongly enough to request a Sefton Council review of the licence on the above premises. As a local businessman who puts hard earned money in to Southport to improve this town, I am truly disgraced that such a place can carry on trading in the heart of what is our tourist district. Good riddance to leos pub. Better empty than full of undesirables that are wrongly promoting our beautiful town. THIS IS MY STAND.

Sorry never having been a licencee I didn't realise that the system had been transferred to the local authority. I suppose somewhere in my wide range of experience I will know something you don't, obviously that would be a monumental ask, then I can roll my eyes at your ignorance.

I think you've completely misinterpreted my post there, and there's certainly no need for the abusive 'fingers' emoji.

The 'rolling eyes' were aimed at the local authority - I was pointing out that a reason that Leo's is still open may be that the licensing authority may stand to gain from keeping it open, which is possibly a conflict of interest. Nudge, nudge .

I often get things wrong, and if I do I apologise.
