Conservative 'policies'.

Suddenly, the Conservative Government is going to spend billions and billions of pounds on hospitals, schools, the police, railways, internet coverage and speed, roads and infrastructure, increase the minimum wage and lower taxes.
This is jaw dropping stuff, I didn’t know that trees grew so fast, money trees that is. But it appears that a forest has appeared from nowhere.
This is of course Government BS. Whilst the aims are laudable, the money simply isn’t there to achieve all this, even over a period of 5 years of a Government term however you look at it.
Allegedly, the money we get back from not paying into EU coffers will cover some of it (some of it), and there is “headroom” in our coffers according to one-time Chancellor Philip Hammond, to cover some of it (some of it).
The truth is concerning that money we “get back” from the EU after leaving, is that we get most of that money back already thanks to a unique deal negotiated by Margaret thatcher when she was PM. We get it back as tax rebates and grants, so the money that’s left in the EU is a very small amount relatively. Yes, we’d get that back, but it wouldn’t even cover building a couple of decent hospitals.

The headroom we have as mentioned by Philip Hammond when chancellor, whilst there, isn’t enough to carry out Mr Johnsons pipe dreams either and would be needed anyway to replace the funding we get from the EU when that stops.
So if, mysteriously, we have the money to do all this now, where has it all come from, and if it was there all the time, or even if it has built up over time, why has this nation suffered austerity for so long? Austerity has nothing to do with the EU it was our very own government that inflicted this pain upon us. The reasons for that though, are another story.
But am I missing something here? Oh yes, a forthcoming election. That’ll be it. Suddenly the Conservatives are the “Party of the People” and not of their big business chums and funders at all. The trouble is, at every general election the Conservatives suddenly conjure up this utopian future for us all in order to gain favour with the masses, then when they get elected (because we’ve fallen for the rhetoric again and again) all the promises turn out to be not quite what we were lead to believe, and we end up back in the same place, whilst the aims and purposes of their funders are fully met and at our expense yet again.
Take note at election time and don’t be conned by Conservative mis-information again (or Brexit Party as they don’t have any manifesto other than leave the EU, then what?). Vote to get the Conservatives out, so that we can seriously start to put this country and its people on its feet again.

In the spirit of balance it should be noted that website is owned by the “people’s” vote team.

If you want to vote for a party that will do something then I would say it’s not Lib:

John Pugh didn’t do much for Southport either other than vote for some very Southport unfriendly policies....I doubt John “not-Wright for Southport” Wright will be any different.

What Bojo is announcing is mostly recycled going back several years, his First announcement of building a prison had already been revealed 2 years ago and is about to start.
The 30 Hospital Projects is only a wish list, 6 will be started over the next 5 years with the remainder 2025 onwards - maybe.
Raising 'The Living Wage' to £10.50 is smoke and mirrors at the current rate of price rises it would be approaching that anyway, it is just a case of trumping Labours figure of £10 which according to the Express will cost Millions of Britons their jobs!

Just as anyone would, I would welcome investment where it's so clearly needed, BUT I notice that even while the Chancellor was throwing out goodwill and goodies he also included a couple of get out clauses.

As he was spreading cash around he also added the little rider " of course as yet we don't know the full cost of Brexit" get out clause NO 1, plus also dispels the lie of the financial Brexit bounce, there isn't one.

Then he added " as yet we don't know the effects of Brexit to the economy" get out clause NO2, what happened to this great promise of freedom which would build our glorious future and booming economy?

If this seems cynical, it's because it most certainly is, I do not see the party which created austerity mainly for idealistic pandering, suddenly becoming the people's party.

Of course all these major investments don't come with a defined timetable, they will in all probability be pushed so far into the future that most of us will never see it, standard Tory policy.

Why is it going to be necessary to vote tactically?

Southport LibDems had been riding that tactical vote wave comfortably for many years, until they blew it by selling their soul for some power in the 2010 coalition with the Conservatives ... part of the backlash from that was it that opened the eyes of many people who had previously voted tactically in Southport, and this pushed them into 3rd place here at the last GE.

The Labour voters who had previously been persuaded to vote LibDem in Southport are now less likely to ever do so again, knowing their 2010 tactical vote was used to prop up several years of Tory rule and all the subsequent consequences of that.

Just a quick post to say how much I agree with the original post by jonboi.

Generations of people, including my parents, were conned into thinking that they would 'better themselves' by voting tory.

The tories aren't interested in 'one nation': they've always been a 'them and us' party.

Does anyone really think that the likes of Johnson, Gove and Rees-Mogg are interested in the welfare of 'ordinary people'?

I have never voted tactically in my life. Even when I lived in Southport I always voted Labour, despite knowing they didn't stand a snowball in hell's chance of ever getting in. My theory is, if everyone voted for the party they believe in, they might stand a much better chance. Voting for another party believing that yours won't win, is one way to make sure that they never will.

Agreed. How did tarting up six hospitals become 'building 40 hospitals' in the media. When Door-Matt Hancock was asked where the money was coming from, he answered 'in the future'. What?

I don't think 'the Saj' has a clue, quite frankly. He's just copied a few of the Labour policies, and added a few pence to them. A photo doing the rounds which amused me. Says it all really.

I've been watching some of the Tory conference. Not much, as blood boiling isn't healthy. But listening to some of the promises they are making, the hospitals, the police, the wages, NHS etc etc, I had to question: why in God's name aren't they already doing this?

Most of it is turning the clock back and trying to repair the unholy mess they've made. The rest? What have they been waiting for?

I know it's just electioneering, but you'd think they were in Opposition, not the actual government. Priti Patel is going to get tough on criminals (bit rich, I know). Why hasn't this already happened? Can they only do this in months with an 'R' in it?

Seems yesterday Esther McVile unveiled this amazing new invention, where architects use 3d modelling to build houses! Yes, honestly! She said they use computers to do it and everything!

Then went on to declare she could imagine how many jobs could be created by this new technology.

Someone pointed out that McVile is 52. She was 15 when AutoCAD was first released...
