Sefton residents have until Friday 1st November to have their say on proposed changes to council tax discounts on empty properties.
Sefton Council is proposing to reduce council tax discounts on empty properties, with the aim of bringing more homes into use across the borough.
Properties that have been empty for less than one month would have the discount reduced from 100% to 50%. Complete the survey online or by visiting your nearest One Stop Shop.

The Council at this moment give you 100% discount of Council rates for the first month.
Then you pay the full tax till it is occupied.
They are going to charge you half of the monthly rates, for the first month, then full rates till it is occupied.
The Council states there are 435 houses empty in SEFTON.
Don't forget, when a relative dies, this applies to their house. It usually takes 4 months to sell a house, after you find a buyer. So relatives will have to pay 50% on first month, then full rates till house is sold.
