Some of it was quite serious with several Police vehicles damaged, I seam to remember 1 Police Officer was badly hurt, a pool ball in a sock. Prison sentences were issued if I remember rightly.
Good. They should have gone to prison. There's a big difference between climbing on top of something to protest and smacking a police officer.
As I recall, most of the rioters that I saw were teenagers or young men in their early twenties, usually egged on by some pissheads from the nearest pubs. As SF said, with an eye on the chance to put a shop window through for a bit of looting.
Which really messes up any protests, as the meaning is lost in a hail of bricks and stolen Nikes.
We have a right to peaceful protest. Absolutely, without question.
Sometimes civil disobedience is also necessary. The suffragettes, for example, needed to do more than just wave a few placards.
It depends on the situation and the reason for protesting. Extinction Rebellion are protesting peacefully. They may be causing massive disruption, but the protest would be pointless if it was simply ignored.
As long as emergency services can continue, they've given people plenty of warning. They shouldn't be stopped unless they harm people, in my opinion.
Everyone to their own opinion!
It is more than a Protest March - XR are Domestic Terrorists. They are organised, they have financial backing from wealthy people, they have logos. A re-invention of the Flower People of the sixties. Both began with bored students looking for some excitement in their lives and both groups involve hallucinating drugs, both groups involved in saving the planet and peace movements. However, the XR movement are likely to be far more dangerous because they have social media at their disposal. The claim made by their founder states:
"The point of an escalation on one level is to continue to increase the costs to the opposition to the point where they concede to your viewpoint." Hallam
Initially their demands were negligible but now the list has grown extensively, while their membership has amalgamated with other similar groups throughout the World.
The founders are those of the modern dumbed down Millennium educated snowflakes attempting to put an intelligent label on stupidity.
While they are not adverse to ignoring their own doctrine. e.g. XR were responsible for flying drones over a London Airport to disrupt Air Flights in a protest about air pollution - yet the founders enjoy long air flights and expensive holidays abroad??
Only one thing for it - bring in Thatcher Rule!
Everyone to their own opinion!

LOGOS!!! The dirty rotten evil swines.

SAVING THE PLANET!!!?? Good Jesus. The inhumanity.
I doubt Hallam, Bradbrook and Bramwell could be described as bored students. Green yes, young, no. Got any proof of the hallucinatory drugs?

Social Media? What, like everyone has? How on earth did those Suffragettes cope without Instagram?

What, that 'saving the planet' thing again? Swines. Although their principals don't seem very sinister to me. :
"We have a shared vision of change—creating a world that is fit for generations to come.
We set our mission on what is necessary—mobilising 3.5% of the population to achieve system change by using ideas such as "momentum-driven organising" to achieve this.
We need a regenerative culture—creating a culture that is healthy, resilient, and adaptable.
We openly challenge ourselves and this toxic system, leaving our comfort zones to take action for change.
We value reflecting and learning, following a cycle of action, reflection, learning, and planning for more action (learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experiences).
We welcome everyone and every part of everyone—working actively to create safer and more accessible spaces.
We actively mitigate for power—breaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation.
We avoid blaming and shaming—we live in a toxic system, but no one individual is to blame.
We are a non-violent network using non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about change.
We are based on autonomy and decentralisation—we collectively create the structures we need to challenge power. Anyone who follows these core principles and values can take action in the name of Extinction Rebellion.
The founders are those of the modern dumbed down Millennium educated snowflakes attempting to put an intelligent label on stupidity.
Dumbed down and educated? Again, given the age of the founders, I doubt they could be described as 'millennial'.
While they are not adverse to ignoring their own doctrine. e.g. XR were responsible for flying drones over a London Airport to disrupt Air Flights in a protest about air pollution - yet the founders enjoy long air flights and expensive holidays abroad??
Drones aren't mini aeroplanes. They work on batteries, don't you know. I understand one of the founders went to Costa Rica once. Talk about not practising what you preach, eh?
Only one thing for it - bring in Thatcher Rule!
Yep. Nothing else for it.
Part of me thinks you might actually be serious. But no, I know a wind up when I see it. 'Snowflakes'. PMSL.

Saving the planet and peace movements?... well damn their blackened hearts!
As someone who was part of the 60s generation, let me assure you that concerns about war were very real to us. I attended protests at Aldermaston and an anti-Vietnam march in London. I wasn't fuelled with hallucinatory drugs either. We were born in the aftermath of WW2, with the visible remains of what a country looks like after 6 years of war all around us. Plus living among people who still had very raw wounds due to the loss of loved ones, and the sight of so many men who who were crippled and horribly disfigured. Perhaps that's why we were so anti-war. It certainly has an effect on you, and to this very day, it still does.
I might have needed hallucinatory drugs to be as brave as this 17 year old was at a peaceful protest outside the Pentagon.
Oddly enough, those most opposed to reducing their carbon footprint - are often the same ones opposed to membership of the EU.
STOP BREXIT!
Hmm says the person who supports cutting down forests destroying wildlife habitats and spewing lung clogging pollution into the air.
Oh did I forget to mention;
A wood stove emits more harmful air particulates than a diesel truck. Does their newfound popularity in cities threaten to wipe out progress in reducing air pollution?
burning wood pellets shipped in from the US was found to be worse for the climate than coal.
sooty black carbon in wood smoke, which is itself a driver of climate change,

N.B. Check out 'DEFRA' and Defra approved stoves....Ours are all Defra approved for use in smoke control areas (smokeless zones) I wouldn't sell anything less!

Nice try,
but having an approved CO2 emitter that clogs childrens lungs and destroys wildlife and their habitats is akin to a member of the NRA telling us he has a licensed rifle.

Funnily enough there used to be train loads of coal moved daily from Liverpool Docks to various power stations until the tree huggers went to war. Now train loads of the very trees they love to hug are moved daily in pellet form from the same dock to power stations FURTHER afield than the defunct coal powered stations. So the extra distance = extra emissions from the diesel loco's. What an idiotic bunch of clowns.

Oh you mean the pellets from the polluting plants in the US these;

9. We are a non-violent network using non-violent strategy - so who do we support? We support XR that is who we support!
