    Extinction Rebellion

In an extraordinary home goal extinction rebellion targeted one of the greenest forms of transport the tube.

It certainly has got them publicity but at the expense of support from the public.

Those who want to do nothing about the pollution which blights our earth are surely rubbing their hands with glee.

A worthwhile cause hijacked by short thinking extremists who clearly have cabbages for brains.

This is were so many activists fall apart, whatever the cause or how worthy, alienating the public is self defeating, the XR activists managed to create a mini rebellion against them, as you say those in denial of the need for change will be delighted.

Did seem a very odd thing to do.

I guess it's down to, is all publicity good publicity?

Well it certainly got them in the news again. All part of keeping up the pressure till Govt takes them seriously - and commits to real change now.

Except what ever changes we make/can make in the UK will have NO effect on the overall Climate Change issues.

No matter what ever we 'save' in CO2 for example will be more than increased by other countries, remembering the UK contributes a mere 1% only in CO2 and other countries are increasing CO2 by much more than our existing 1%

I agree with XR in principal, absolutely. I also understand that disruption is part of protest, otherwise nobody would notice.

However I think they made a huge mistake in choosing this morning's protest. You'd think that the tube would be one of the last places to disrupt, given they want people to use public transport. They need the public on side, not turning against them. The message is lost if they just anger everyone.

I've edited my post. I was ****** off that the mob put the boot in with the protester that was pulled off the roof. A second view shows the protester clearly kick the bloke in the face, first. Bring violence, get violence.

    Poor show all round.

I thought I'd try and have a look at who and how much and found this on http://worldpopulationreview.com/cou...ns-by-country/

I then had a quick shufty at who are the biggest polluters and it throws up some interesting nuggets of information.

It shows that the U.K is 16th in the list of total emissions and that begs the question - why bring London to a standstill and not Moscow, Tehran, Beijing, Riyadh, Jakarta or Washington?

Then it hit me - I think it might be the little darlin's won't get such a tolerant reception as they enjoy in London if they cycled overto those cities

Country Total Emissions Per Capita Emissions

    China 9.04 billion 6.59
    United States 5.00 billion 15.53
    India 2.07 billion 1.58

No but it keeps up the pressure on the Government to pressure other Countries.

I see that my country is high on the list, thanks in part to the national shame of our dirty oilsands. Transportation, mainly commercial, also generates a lot of emissions, but in such a vast country maybe that can't be helped. On the plus side about 2/3 of our electricity comes from hydro.

The only place to put the pressure is in the polluting country.
Jumping on Southport's buses because Indias are polluters is beyond barmy logic.

There is also the problem that entirely innocent people using green transport being obstructed is akin to kicking pedestrians whilst cars stream past.
They clearly have been smoking cabbage leaves

With publicity like this, they might as well be protesting for the other side.

Someone has got to be first. I'd have said 1% from such a small country was rather high TBH.

It's kind of the it's not my problem attitude that has got us here in the first place.

Some of those statistics are pretty interesting.

Look at the difference between China's and India' s per capita emissions.

Agree....The 'why should I change my ways, when those in China, the USA, etc, are not' types.

Worth noting that concerned folk (self included) have been midering Govt departments like the DfT and the Treasury, for the past twenty years with little effect.....My angle has been repeated requests to use a realistic portion of the annual roads budget to finance Dutch-style cycle infrastructure.

It's accepted that electric traction is preferable to fossil-fuelled. Yet an electric car costs £30,000 or more, whereas a very decent electric bike is much more affordable at around £2k. A bikes battery can power a 50km round trip - more than enough for most commutes. But without a safe good-quality national cycle infrastructure, who is going to buy them?

I fully support the aims of XR...Writing letters, etc to Govts has got us next to nowhere - so getting out there now and making our feelings know loud and clear is the way to go!
