Southport | Mini-Monaco of the UK
Mr. Wallis of Southport Pleasureland, of whom I have enormous admiration and respect for, is proposing amongst other ideas, that Southport ought to host a Formula E race. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Formula E it is the young electric cousin of Formula One, an electric racing series that criss-crosses the globe over a season lasting some 7 months. International venues include Paris, Miami, London and Saudi Arabia... and perhaps, just perhaps, Southport!
Inspired by the racing dream I have created a potential street circuit that Mr. Wallis may wish to use and send to the FIA for approval.
Gentlemen, start your batteries!

Me and the wife were thinking about a similar thing last summer only for motorcycling whilst watching the Sunday bikers flying down the Prom only a course that took in the whole perimeter of the lake so that the stretch next to the yacht club could be used as a finish strait with ample space on the car park for a large temporary stand for spectators.

Do you think there'd be a charge to watch?

The roads around here aren't up to it, a lost of resurfacing would be required.

The speed humps in Ocean Plaza might be a bit problematic.

Might as well - that is the only way you will get cars on the roads into Southport!

More than the natural layout of the Coastal Road do you think?

The Coastal Rd is flat and doesn't feature in Townie Chap's suggested route. You're presumably thinking of the undulating stretch of Marine Drive at Marshside which also doesn't feature in the suggested route.

Why the hell not! It would be far more challenging and very funny to watch!

Bring back the motor racing to Southport beach for the petrol heads as well. Southport was known for this in years gone by. Yes let’s have electric racers on Southport streets. It will get the paying audience spending money in Southport pubs, cafes, restaurants etc. Footfall.

Sadly the town doesn't and will never have the infrastructure in place to hold any sort of street race with avaerage costs of 2- 4 million to design and race ready a street circuit, approx 4 million to pay the FIA for them to come to the town, and a further 2 million to host the race.
Then god know's how much to shut up the moaning minnies who want to walk down that road that particular week while barriers and grandstands are built, so while a good thought I would say more of a throw a way comment.
As for a Dinosaur park, remember the one we had in the 80's where ocean plaza is now, that didn't last long.

I have always considered Southport itself to be the World’s largest dinosaur park but now I am confused by Brontosauruses penning letters to this forum, myself excluded of course ...

Just imagine the £billionaires and their yachts anchored 5 miles off Southport rowing into the edge of the tide line a mile off land and trudging the last mile through mud and unmown grass, yes Southport the Monaco of The North West.
