That was nothing like a trial, Republicans blocked witnesses and witness statements voted purely on party lines, the rights, wrongs, legality or illegal activity counted for nothing, be very aware our own government is moving in the same direction, already barring some journalists from attending briefings at NO 10.

He was never likely to be prosecuted. It seems the Democrats knew the opposition would never do the right thing, but were determined to hold the President to account, as they should.

It will mean little to Trump, but his legacy will be stained by impeachment, as was Clinton and Johnson. The US Constitution was written to restrain men like Trump. But when the ruling party is as corrupt and reprehensible as the Republicans undoubtedly are, along with his outright manipulation of the judiciary, that particular document, and the spirit in which it was forged has been shredded.

I've no doubt the alleged rapist will be elected again. Probably won't win the popular vote, but the Electoral College will not reflect the 'sense of the people'. He's still riding high on Obama's legacy, as a fact check of his SOTU address showed. And his patrons on the far right have learned that sloganeering manipulates the gullible far more than facts do. A sad day for honour and decency, but that's a global pandemic right now and for the foreseeable future.

The Democrats were probably trying to smoke more skeletons out of the closet, if that had happened more Republicans may have broken ranks and even if convicted he may have been terminally damaged.

I find it quite bizarre that you can hold a trial without any evidence being submitted, I think there will be quite a few books to be published in the not too distant future.

Very simple,
It was their constitutional responsibility to do it.
he was charged with two things anyway,,,
The Biden matter and then obstructing Congress.
To have turned a blind eye would have been worse.
But the GOP simply would not do its job in the Senate.
He has not been cleared of either,
I am in the US now and I can tel you people I have met are disgusted at what the GOP did.
And as for Johnson, just how much does he have to do for you to realise he is dismantling democracy?

Not simple at all their constitutional responsibility comes with a responsibility to bring a well grounded action not a fishing expedition that was clearly going to fail.

As to Johnson dismantling democracy that's the stuff of losing conspiracy theorists.

If you had shown the same enthusiasm to defend democracy during the various actions of the anti-democracy extremists I might believe you had a point.

Johnson gets his dose of democracy at the next general election where if your unhappy with his performance which I assume you are, then vote for a. n. other.

Thankfully the anti-democracy extremists weren't able to overturn our democracy and the ring leaders all thankfully got their marching orders at the general election.

I know there have been unelected advisers, but none have had the influence that Cummings appears to have, winners?????? let's see how this goes before deciding anything.

So they have constructed this voodoo doll Cummings as an outlet for their frustration, why despite all their efforts to undermine Brexit and Boris have the majority ignored them why they think are all those people so wrong there must be something wrong with them ?

Maybe just maybe Cummings is Boris's puppet a lightning rod for the disgruntled ones to aim at, so many have underestimated the hedge haired one yet there he is Prime Minister with huge power against the predictions of quite a few including on here.

The self absorbed ones will have to plot from the shadows for some time or get with the flow and steer to a new direction with the current rather than against it.

Why is the slightest comment or opinion which doesn't slavishly hail the great Boris regarded as hysterical or disgruntled, we ALL know how the election went, we ALL have to accept the result, that doesn't mean we have to like it, surely it's down to Johnson to put his money where his mouth is and govern for the country and the majority of people, until then I and many others will remain suspicious, after all the country has elected a well documented liar as leader, but in your book apparently everyone should now regard him a some great achiever, just a reminder he has done nothing yet apart from stifle opposition.
