You should be able to provide a link to that then.
Was a monkey really hanged in Hartlepool?
"There is no evidence whatsoever that the people of Hartlepool hanged a monkey," said Keith Gregson, an author, historian and retired teacher from the town.

There have been a few vox pops from Hartlepool this morning. One chap voted Conservative because 'there were no food banks when Labour was in power, now we've got nine'. And 'We've no courts, no police stations, and lack of hospital beds because of Labour'. As if 10 years of Tory rule didn't do that, one Labour MP with no control over funding was to blame. So they voted for a Cayman island habitant instead of a local Doctor who works in the the local hospital. Thick as pigshit.
I'm also gobsmacked by the 'plans' that Starmer has 'for the future'. Why TAF didn't he think he needed these 'plans' in the first place? 'Oh we don't need a plan yet, but if we lose a load of local councillors in England, we'll roll it out'? Astounding.
So we've an electorate who are fine with a Kakistocracy, an opposition who has 'plans' but doesn't implement them, and a criminal government.
I think we're in for a bumpy ride.
All may well be true Toodles but, the simple and perhaps unedifying truth is,.no one cares anymore.
One of the saddest elements of politics past is the social tethering of voters. People are now looking past the labels and voting for who does what's best for the region - the North East is a case in point.

I don't think there has been social tethering of voters since the 1970s.
But I agree that no one cares anymore. But they do seem proud of their nine food banks.

What!
Elections 2021: Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner sacked as party chair
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-57037839
Keir Starmer taking "full responsibility" and making the Labour Party less London-centric - by sacking Angela Rayner, from Stockport, as the party chair!
He avoids the usual Labour mistake of scapegoating the electorate; instead scapegoating Angela Rayner.
Ludicrous decision.
Edit: I think it might be time for Andy Burnham.

Burnham could be dropped into Batley. Though I'm sure he'd prefer a Merseyside seat.
Seems Keir hasn't learned a lesson, nor does he take 'full responsibility'. Quite a hill to climb, winning back these lost northern working class seats by sacking a northern working class woman.
Yet silence on Jenny Chapman. Curious.
I'm tempted to rejoin for the leadership election.
Edit: Leak the Forde Report on the way out, Ange.

Hartlepool has been a town of immense suffering in history.
In WW1 117 people were killed by German Navy shelling.
1930'S Depression unemployment and poverty was high up to WW2.
the Town suffered badly with the decline in shipbuilding.
In the 70's British steel closed.
The 80's brought high unemployment poverty and all the ills of despair and addiction were rife.
If any town in this country deserves the full help and respect of someone listening to them it is the brave people of Hartlepool.

Burnham has already given his Oscar speech on re-election as Manc Mayor.

A week is a long time in politics, as they say.
If you'd have asked me earlier on today, I'd say it was a bit of an over reaction, calling for a new leader when Labour have lost local council seats, not another general election. As I said, the pundits and pollsters aren't really painting a grim picture for 2024. Yet.
But removing Rayner as party chair seems an over reaction in the extreme. Starmer lost one parliamentary seat. That he should have expected to lose after the Brexit result there. Dropping a remain leaning candidate in a leave voting seat? Hardly earth shattering with an 80 seat majority to face down. And I sincerely doubt Rayner was the mastermind behind Starmer's non-existent campaign.
So now I'm thinking there's hardly a stable hand on the tiller, if you get my meaning.

I was born and bred in Greater Manchester, so perhaps I'm overreacting to a Londoner sacking a woman from Stockport!
After Long-Bailey, Angela is the 2nd high profile woman from Greater Manchester he's sacked. Is he aiming to do one every year? Not that Rebecca Long-Bailey was much of a loss.
It's a cowardly and unmerited decision to sack Angela Rayner. I wonder if he could have sacked her as Deputy, would he have done that, too? I daresay he seems to want a Labour civil war.

Apparently AR was caretaker of the Hartlepool election biz.

Me too
Wonder if she still shares a flat with RLB? They'll be swapping notes.
I just think it's a ridiculously premature reaction, given the fact that it's one Parliamentary seat that he should never have considered he'd win. Yes, lots of local council seats, but since when have the PLP been that concerned there? Not in my experience, anyway.
The CLP Whatsapp should be white hot tonight. They won't be happy. Starmer isn't the most popular chap there, especially after the Liverpool mayoral debacle.
I'm getting the popcorn in for this. Its either Whatsapp and Twitter or watching Liverpool v Southampton on a Mexican TV channel. Might even crack open a beer.

Not heard anything about that. Starmer listens to Chapman. I can't see RLB being involved much.
I might be wrong though. Unless she's taking them down from the inside. Which deserves even more popcorn. I'll ask a few friends still in the mix.

My mistake sorry.
I have corrected my last post to read Angela Raynor.
