Everyone starts driving around.....Next thing they're going for fuel, parking up all over the place and chatting to/breathing on other drivers, kids getting out, mixing, etc, etc.

Rather strange that cycling is allowed. I suppose its down to cyclists being a law unto themselves. They always seem to go where they want and do what they want without question. And when their little legs get tired they can load their toys onto public transport and have a free journey home.

Northern (or whatever they're now called) say they are running a reduced service for essential workers only..... Doubtful they are letting everyday cyclists on now tbh.

Yes. For more on that attitude, there's a current thread on the Forum:

Yes. A cyclist can literally be a law unto....

Coronavirus: Council workers assaulted with one left with broken leg while working during lockdown

"A community safety patrol officer had his leg broken after a cyclist rode into him in Southend High Street.

The incident was caught on CCTV and police are investigating, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council said."

Council workers face increasing abuse amid coronavirus pandemic

"A Southend community support officer, who was enforcing the government’s social distancing guidelines, is said to be the latest victim in a series of incidents after a cyclist rode into him, breaking the officer’s leg on Thursday.

“I hope the police are quick to catch the offending cyclist and any other perpetrators using the full force of the law to protect our workers,” said councillor Martin Terry, cabinet member for community safety and customer care."

As often demonstrated by our resident eco hypocrite some cyclists are extraordinarily selfish.

Considering it's usually a car or van as favoured choice of 'weapon' in pedestrian attacks..... this is indeed unusual, if not almost unique.

Fyi, pedestrians have also been 'at it' since the virus clampdown.....E.g. the sickening attack by footgoers on Iceland food vans used to deliver essential supplies.

How can cycling to the store for my daily supplies possibly be described as eco hypocritical?

N.B. Perhaps you'd care to let us all in on your chosen method of daily food transport?

You are reading it wrong, daily supplies for me are things like tea, coffee, milk, bread, stuff for a meal etc, which of course you don't buy each day

How so? We're allowed out once a day for supplies and once a day for exercise......I use the bike for both trips, sometimes combining the shopping for supplies (fresh bread etc) with the exercise.

I'm hypothesising that 'local' still houses a bee in his bonnet, due my strong support for the remain camp during the referendum. Otherwise, why keep trying (with great futility, lol!) to have a go at a cyclist?

No the "bee in my bonnet" is irritated by your selfish eco hypocrisy,

the fact you missed the public mood on EU membership primarily because of the effects on your lifestyle just reinforces my point.

I have never preached on people following my choices or not the fact that you don't know supports that.

No, that does not tally with 'cycling only'. Cyclists are just as likely to have an accident as motorists are. Anyone is likely to have an accident, including those carrying out DIY at home now. Cycling places the rider well away from people and out in the fresh air. One cyclist rode for several hours out on a cycle ride, out on his own - never met anyone or spoke to anyone - yet received a rebuke from the Police Authorities. How does that breach any distancing requirements?

It is the same with driving - a motorist has distanced themselves away from people, they are on their own. They are even better placed to isolate as they go to places wide out in the open. Fresh air is far better for people's health than staying in a building with stagnant air.

My guess is that this action has something more to do with zero carbon emissions and climate change than any pandemic.

Some authority rules are a bit quaint to say the least - the Police in Lancashire added black dye to a blue quarry pool to stop people being attracted to the area??
