Southport Hospital
Maybe a bit behind the times here in splendid isolation but just wondered:
a) Are there many cases of C19 in Southport; and
b) What is the state of Southport Hospital now, i.e. is there still about an eight hour wait if you break your ankle, etc. and attend at A & E?

I would not think so - they have had less to deal with regarding accidents I should think due to the lockdown. There are no confirmed cases in Southport - the only cases given are for Sefton, only and as I understand it these are all south of Crosby. There is a lockdown - but you can still talk to people even if you are two metres apart.

Somebody commented on the 'Who's got Covid-19 in Southport' post that they know of some poor sod in our hospital who is in a coma through contracting Coronavirus. So it would seem we have at least one, possibly a few more are in there for it. My thoughts are with all of them and their families.

As of today there are 45 victims in Sefton. Given how they have only been testing people in hospital, I think it's very likely. Also I have been watching the numbers in Sefton daily, and they have been doubling every 2 to 3 days which is very worrying.

In which case I stand corrected - my information came from a nurse based at the hospital. Perhaps these people were admitted overnight and my informant was unaware of them, which would support the fact that they are not shown on the confirmed cases maps which would have been in print too early to note them.

A few days ago the CEO of the Hospital trust issued a statement that said as expected they were treating Sars - Covid patients but wouldn't give any details, it would be quite bizzare if all Seftons patients where at Fazackerley and all the Southport & Ormskirk patients where at Ormskirk which doesn't have an Adult A&E.

It's clear now, with recent information on the other site, that Southport Hospital is involved with caring for patients who have contracted Covid-19. Surely even the other site would not make that up. Again, my thoughts are with those locally affected.

Hopefully the reduced number of patients using A&E will be treated with respect and dealt with promptly as we wait to see how this virus affects the town.
Once the expected peak comes lets hope the hard working majority are not hamstrung by the minority who don't,
although I suspect they will be playing the stay at home card to its fullest.

From what I've seen, just keeping pubs and clubs shut, particularly at weekend, should reduce intake at A&E by about 90%.
Probably a fair amount the rest of the time too.
