Outrageous.
Just seen on other site that 150 asylum seekers to be housed at the Scarisbrick Hotel. Just what the council tax payers in Sefton need. 150 takers and chancers rolling up looking for a passport. Yet more of a drain on local services and resources. I seem to remember being criticised on here about 2 or 3 years ago for suggesting that it would eventually look like the Somalian embassy.

If they are genuine they would have sought asylum in the first country they landed in.

Can you really blame other human beings for getting to the best place they possibly can?
Did your ancestors behave any differently?

Why blame the Council, it will be the Government that has done a deal with Brittania.

I dont blame the council. But it is the council tax payers that will pay a price. Resources and services are like a cake. The more people wanting a slice the thinner the slices become.

On a practical note -
How are the 150 going to be fed, who does the laundry etc etc
If Britannia are opening up the kitchens to provide 3 meals a day for them, and house keeping starts again, in effect the hotel has re-opened.
I would be pretty miffed if I was a hotel owner who couldn't open, yet this one effectively can.

surprised they got the contract most users cant wait to leave it!.my main concern given the current situation is have they been tested as corona clear.before their housed there.last thing southport needs is an influx of people from unknown areas.despite those tragic local loses weve not been as hard hit as other areas.

That doesn't sound like part of a genius marketing plan for our moribund town centre,
is it true ?

You don't even know where they're from so how can you say for certain that this isn't the first country they landed in?
But perhaps if the overly patriotic section of the population didn't constantly loudly voice that this country is superior to all others then fewer people would want to come here.

It's not as if the town is looking for an influx of tourists right now.

I think that this tells us that Brittania will never reopen it, when it is finished with as an Asylum Centre it will be sold on - every cloud etc.

Unless they all stowed away on planes or ships arriving from outside the EU (both highly unlikely) they must have travelled overland through perfectly safe EU states.
Imo, the EU has a responsibility to at least provide camp-type accommodation to house all migrants, whilst their status as genuine/phoney asylum seekers is determined. I have no objection to looking after genuine applicants - even on a long-term basis - until the situation in their homeland has stabilised....Illegal economic migrants however, should be sent straight back home.

Why do we have so many, the UK is already one of the most populated countries in Europe.

Therein lies both legal and human rights issues.
Most have no paperwork/documents, so cannot establish which country they originated from, and even if you could identify their country by language etc, they still cannot be sent back without paperwork identifying them.
Then even IF you could do that, Human Rights issues then come into play, would they be persecuted, is it a 'war' area, etc etc etc
