Border in the Irish Sea
Brexit will mean checks on goods crossing Irish Sea, government admits
Ministers’ letter confirms border control posts at ports of Belfast, Warrenpoint and Larne
The government has privately conceded there will be post-Brexit checks on goods crossing the Irish Sea, months after Boris Johnson insisted there would be no such trade barriers.
In a letter to the executive office in Stormont the government confirmed there would be border control posts in three ports, Belfast, Warrenpoint and Larne.
Declan Kearney, one of the two junior ministers in the executive office, the regional equivalent of the Cabinet Office in London, confirmed the details at a select committee session in Belfast on Wednesday.
He told members of the local assembly that officials had briefed the executive on Monday.
“The sum total of that, and without breaching executive confidentiality … [is that the] British government has confirmed it will urgently put in place detailed plans with the executive, which does include the physical posts at ports of entry,” said Kearney.

Let's remember the history of this
Before there was a vacancy for a Leader, Johnson disgracefully went to NI and told the Unionists there would be no border across the irish Sea. Nor a backstop. A commitment he was in no position to keep.
Then once elected he agreed a WA which was fundamentally the one he had torpedoed May over. Which instead of the backstop had the Irish Sea border in it.
When he came back he spoke about it and denied there was such a provision. His own Brexit Secretary had to correct him.
Then he was in NI , got ****** and said it again. This time Gove repeated it.
The EU charitably ignored this and applied for an office in Belfast so they could keep an eye on things, as was also agreed. Request denied.
And some wonder why the EU is "sceptical" about negotiating with us.
Is this gross stupidity? Johnson is famously bored by details. So being incorrect once may be just a slip up...but three times?
Or is it really a desire to scrap the WA? Wasn't implementation of the WA part of the "Get Brexit Done" manifesto? if the intention was always to scrap it, should they not have said in the election the intention was no deal?
There must be times when they are glad the virus is taking the headlines.

Quote
"The UK government has confirmed to the EU it will enhance inspection posts at Northern Ireland's ports in order to deliver on the Brexit deal.
Junior Minister Declan Kearney said the executive was informed on Monday.
He said the UK government has "confirmed it will urgently put in place detailed plans with the executive, which does include physical posts at ports of entry".
The BBC understands this relates to letters between the EU and UK.
The letters, understood to have been exchanged in the last two weeks, focused on what are known as Border Control Posts (BCPs).
Under the Brexit deal, reached in October, Northern Ireland will continue to follow EU single market rules on agricultural and manufactured goods."
The rest of the UK will stop following these rules at the end of 2020.

Clearly the "the brave NEW Johnson deal" was, as many of us believed just total BS.

I can't imagine anyone is surprised. Nobody surely takes Johnson at his word. A pathological liar, sacked several times for lying, told lies.
He has one job: deliver a no-deal Brexit. It doesn't matter how he achieves it, as long as he does it. The pandemic will distract from the lies about Brexit, then Brexit will distract from the incompetence about the pandemic. I doubt Johnson will be around to see either to their conclusions, so it won't matter to him.
