What have you got in your medicine cabinet ?
Trump is getting lots of stick for his hydroxychloroquine. I tried to buy it (before he pushed it )without success. I did buy azithromycin and bromhexine.

Trump takes Hydroxychloroquine a drug that's been around for decades and the media angle is Trump takes untested drug as though he's knocked something up in a meths lab.
The anti Trump rhetoric is becoming laughable, yes he is an oafish bore but the media is losing the plot over him, just as some here with their mindless anti-Boris drivel.
Novartis, Mylan and Teva are to supply tens of millions of chloroquine tablets to fight COVID-19

In France, a professor conducted a small study of the malaria drug in 24 patients with novel coronavirus infections. Of those who received the medicine, only 25% tested positive for the virus after six days, according to en24. Meanwhile, of those who didn't receive it, 90% tested positive after that timeframe. The French government now plans to run larger studies.
In a study published last month in Nature, authors wrote that “chloroquine is a cheap and a safe drug that has been used for more than 70 years and, therefore, it is potentially clinically applicable against the 2019-nCoV.”

Issue I think is this :
Hydroxychloroquine has not yet been totally proven and accepted as a Covid cure/help
Hydroxychloroquine is safe yes, but not for everybody, it can be very detrimental (apparently) for many with certain health issues

As with many drugs, even the common Aspirin saves lives for some and takes it (rarely though) from others.
The initial tests are promising.

One of the side effects is 'bleaching' of the hair.

Spot on, Local.
I tried to get it (but was told only in hospitals) following advice from medic pals in malaria prone NA&ME countries.
I will try again(if face-masked me and face-masked pharmacist can understand one another.)

If Trump announces anything it is twisted, the nonsense surrounding him is at fever pitch it is a sad reflection on the media.
Move on, we knew what he was like when he was first standing for office it ain't news.

You're missing the point here, I and I suspect many others couldn't care less if he takes strychnine with a side order of arsenic, yet he announces these "remedies" without the warning of suitability or not, for all.
If this drug proves to be beneficial all to the good, but I would prefer any recommendations to come from doctors rather than this guy.

Although it has been around for decades it has only been in use for Covid-19 for a couple of months & on a very small trial basis. Just because a drug is safe to use in one situation does not mean it is safe for all diseases.
Aspirin is a very safe drug to use for pain unless you have stomach ulcers at which point you will suffer from internal bleeding.

Local - you quoted an article featured in Nature from 'a month ago'. A month is a long time in the course of a pandemic, data collection & collation.
Here are the results of a drug trial as written in the BMJ 5 days ago re effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of Covid-19

No need to twist Trump's statements as they can all be more or less as ridiculous as his latest idiocy and nobody knew he could be this bad back in 2016.
Don't go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.

I don't believe for one minute that Trump is taking hydroxychloroquine. It's just another one of his diversions, and boy does he know how to suck the oxygen out of the room! The media on this side of the pond is consumed with discussing it, to the exclusion of more important things. The media does itself no favours by giving it days and days and days of coverage.
I couldn't give a damn if he takes it. What I do give a damn about, is the possibility of a repeat of what happened the last time hydroxychloroquine was being touted. Shortages of hydroxychloroquine meant many people who depend on the drug (for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus) couldn't get it.
