The 'virus' was downgraded in March from a high risk infection, and further downgraded in April as being merely coronavirus. This covers anything from the common cold. Those who are in control of information, have the power to control situations.

Coronavirus is the name of the type of virus.

SARS-CoV-2 is the name of this virus.

Covid-19 is the name of the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2

    Got that?

    Of course it was downgraded.

The government then didn't have to make PPE a priority.

It was downgraded once, as far as I know. I'm not sure with 70,000+ dead, I'd use the word 'merely'. Doesn't sound much like any 'control' either.

So potty mouth has decided that the government and presumably the NHS, the contributing scientists etc etc have co-operated to downgrade the virus to save on PPE.

Blimey she will be supporting David Icke and burning 5 G masts next.

This lockdown is certainly stewing minds.

According to an investigation by Panorama, the availability of appropriate PPE was a consideration in the ACDP's decision to remove Covid-19 from the HCID list. NHS staff were advised to wear basic surgical masks and aprons.

    https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-52440641

"Panorama also investigated changes to the government guidance on what PPE NHS staff should wear.

In January this year, Covid-19 was officially designated a High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID). The decision was made in consultation with a group of British experts.

A Health and Safety Executive evaluation of PPE published in 2019 had already recommended that all healthcare workers should wear a gown, FFP3 respirator mask and visor when dealing with HCIDs.

Those recommendations were in line with existing UK guidance.

But on 13 March this year, the government downgraded its guidance on PPE and told NHS staff they were safe to wear less protective aprons and basic surgical masks in all but the most high risk circumstances.

Panorama understands that on the same day, the government took steps to remove Covid-19 from the list of HCIDs.

But the experts who had recommended the coronavirus be put on the list in the first place were not consulted. Instead, the government asked its Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP).

Panorama has discovered that the ACDP was only asked to consider the matter on the morning of its 13 March meeting. It was added to the committee's agenda under "any other business".

The committee backed the decision to remove Covid-19 from the HCID list, but sources on that committee have told Panorama that it had to be, in part, a pragmatic decision based on the availability of PPE.

It was another six days before Public Health England announced that the coronavirus was no longer considered an HCID."

You put that better than I would have.

I'd have told him to **** off and read something before he posts.

The decision to downgrade the virus was made prior to the media published demands for PPE's. To downgrade a contagion in accordance with the limited protection available is nonsense - there were many other reasons taken into consideration at that time - Panorama.

The original designation of the virus was made in January of this year by the Four Nations Health group, but following greater clinical awareness and the fact that the number of fatalities did not meet the UK criteria for an HCID, it was downgraded. There were also other outstanding issues relating to the outbreak that were also discussed including payments to be made under the Bartlett Formula. The group considered the most relevant of the four advisory committees was the ACDP, since the other agencies were those of interested parties.

Since May of this year, the media have referred to Covid 19, as simply coronavirus.

The most interesting fact to consider, based on the present global status, is how the outbreak initially started.

As stated earlier, the decision was based in part on the government's current stockpile of PPE (or lack of).

If you had actually read the text I copied from the BBC link I provided, you would have noted that an ACDP source said:

"the committee backed the decision to remove Covid-19 from the HCID list, but sources on that committee have told Panorama that it had to be, in part, a pragmatic decision based on the availability of PPE.

My apologies, I wasn't aware that the media had the power to designate an official name for a new virus, or name the disease caused by the virus.

Initially the media and the general public called it coronavirus. It was known to be a type of coronavirus, but not one that had been seen before. Officially, the virus was named "2019 novel coronavirus”. The disease didn't have a name. On Feb.11th the virus was given the official name "SARS-CoV-2" by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. The WHO named the disease "Covid-19" on the same day.

The term "coronavirus" is still in common use, but this doesn't mean that it's the correct term to use. Coronavirus is the name of a type of virus, of which there are many. The new virus is SARS-CoV-2. The disease is Covid-19
