Boris had Coronavirus so wasn't wondering what Cummings was up to I suspect.

His actions for his "test run" are to me the only grey area if its proved he has in any way not given an honest account of it then fine sack him

The Castle may give colour to the story but I assume the place was shut.

In these days of CCTV and dashcams, many frustrated journalists who haven't got their quarry will no doubt be looking.
As the Chief Medical Officer said if somebody is in a position that they cannot look after a vulnerable person the solution is to contact the Local Authority not travel. He stressed that he did not go in the castle, I assume the same as yourself that it was shut, that is probably why they didn't walk round the town but a 60 mile round trip does have an aroma about it if he had just said it was a nice day and after being stuck inside for a fortnight we decided to go out for a drive and some air people would have believed it.

I think the visit to the castle also coincided with this wife's birthday. Which I suspect was less of an eye test and more of a jolly jaunt to the local beauty spots.

Its all about the political miles in essence.
The only part of this which is political, is trust and belief in government, this is applicable to any government of any flavour, attempts to turn this into a left/right issue is pretty pathetic, but only to be expected from “Johnson can do no wrong” devotees.

The Chiefs comments are simply a convoluted way of saying contact Social Services,

so put your child in care and stay in,

or take him to somewhere your family would look after him aware of the security consequences.

Hands up those who would have chosen the Social Services option ?

The Castle Trip (Closed) just doesn't ring out as the likely place for a jolly with the wife on deserted streets when your as infamous as he is.

Surely he could have wangled a week in Chequers or somewhere in his position if it was all about a trip with the wife.

In some ways the fact it was such a tedious outing gives it the ring of truth still the journalists will keep digging and lets see what happens.

It's a smokescreen, a distraction. Right wing papers are up in arms about this as much as the Mirror and Graun.

Just as the whole 'for the sake of my child' bit is nonsense. Both Cummings and his wife have previously written columns completely conflicting yesterday's pronouncement.

After feeling unwell he fancied a jaunt back to see the folks. Thought it would be nice for wifey's birthday. The rest is a tissue of lies and half truths.

Like most psychopaths, he's a compulsive liar. There were so many signs in his speech and body language. Not just signs, outright pants on fire stuff. Such as he 'warned about coronavirus in his blog last year'. He didn't, he wrote an article about SARS. His blog was changed, coincidentally on the day the claimed he went back to work. But the need to feel intellectually superior to others is so strong, he doesn't think anyone is smart enough to catch him out.

This isn't going to be forgotten any time soon. The PM's approval rating has plummeted to minus figures. He's a choice to make soon. He can either continue without his puppet master, or he sinks in his defence of him.

The right wing papers are up in arms? Read the Mail.

They wrote columns that conflicted with what he said yesterday?

He wrote a blog about SARS then changed it to Coronavirus last month?

The PM's approval ratings have plummeted?

By all means, provide links which prove me wrong. Otherwise it's more tribal crap and not worth anyone's time.

Here's a comment from Judi James a body language expert in the hardly partisan Mirror,

It just doesn't support the liar theory.

I've been thinking a lot about this, and I think the trip to Barnard Castle is the element of his story that even he couldn't properly justify.

All along he repeated that safeguarding his child was his main priority, so why put him in the car when Cummings allegedly had dodgy eyesight and feared he might not be able to drive properly? Far from protecting the child, it was recklessly endangering him.

They also sat on a bench by the riverside, which at that time was a lockdown breach.

So, I'm with the 'jolly jaunt on his wife's birthday' theory.

At this stage, it looks like the story is not going away anytime soon.
Heaven knows when he will be able to concentrate on the Brexit deliverance from do-as-we-please unelected bureaucrats.
Don't go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.

Nothing adds up. From his wife's account of their isolation published The Spectator, little Ceddy was with them the whole time. This, despite the fact that Cummings was in a really bad way. If the reason for going to Durham was to ensure a safe environment for their son, and people they trusted to care for him, why wasn't the boy put in their care?

But you wouldn't give up your child and take the attendant risks until you really had to surely ?

I wouldn't, I would get myself there and only when I couldn't manage do it.

If there was a trusted safe alternative, I don't think that I would heighten the risk of my child contracting the virus by keeping them with me.

From their own accounts, he was barely fit to drive at all, let alone risk his family and other road users, defend as you wish he was bang out of order, in his position I’m pretty sure he could have easily got whatever assistance he needed.

This was a guy doing his own thing and to hell with anything or anyone else, of course we will all defend and protect our children in the best way possible, that doesn’t mean we ride roughshod over advice and instructions.

    From The Guardian today:<aside class="element element-rich-link element-rich-link--tag element--thumbnail element-rich-link--upgraded" data-component="rich-link-tag" data-link-name="rich-link-tag">

</aside>"In Wakefield’s account of the family’s time in quarantine, she described a range of unusual and varying symptoms that people with coronavirus may experience ... No mention, though, of problems with her husband’s eyesight."
