well if you apply that logic you would have to remove most of the royal family, most of the celebs and wealthy...they all exited london quickly to their 2nd 3rd 4th etc home very quickly.....if i lived in london in march i would remove myself!

Yes, the eyesight nonsense was hammered home by Johnson at his press conference afterwards. He basically said he'd noticed a deterioration in his eyesight since he'd had Covid-19. "having to wear spectacles for the first time in years". Even flourished his glasses to support the point.

Pretty sure he's the only person going that wore glasses 5 years ago, had a miraculous improvement in sight, then has had to go back to wearing glasses because of the Coronavirus. A quick Google will show he's been wearing glasses for a long time. More lies. But do we expect anything else from a career liar?

Having said that, it is the most believable aspect I've heard regarding this debacle.

Now as well as the resignations earlier, there are 40 more Tory MPs demanding that Cummings is shown the door.

Wonder if they are all lefty losers? All 'bitter over Brexit'?

It is quite heartening to know that there are that many Tory MPs with integrity, particularly considering the guts was ripped out of the party last year. There are that many MPs that actually give a damn about the public's trust.

Speaking of public trust, did anyone see Gove crumble at his LBC interview? He was about to say he'd gone for a drive to test his eyesight, then just trailed off when he realised how ridiculous it sounded. You can see the point where he just gave up:

The embittered losers who can't handle the fact that Cummings outwitted them over Brexit and Boris are still smarting and the opportunity for them to exact their revenge figures highly in their faux outrage.

The visceral attacks on Cummings are not rational responses for the charge of taking his child to his parents.

Those who thinks it attacks the spirit of the lockdown, and that includes me, are much more measured as we weigh up the "what would you do in the same circumstances" question.

My point no better exampled than with the Queen of vote thieves, Anna Soubry a proven conwoman venting her spleen anywhere that would have her.

So, now you're saying Brexit was not the settled will of the British electorate, but rather that we were "outwitted" by cunning Cummings? Is that correct?

Poundshop Churchill doubled down on his support for his man today.

After using the words 'move on' in every sentence (crap new slogan) he's getting everyone to dig in and get more angry.

I reckon you'll get even money for PM Gove in a few months. Longer odds for PM Raab. But it won't be long before the Cabinet start looking to their own careers.

Sure as eggs are eggs Boris is cementing his powerbase, the whinestorm has as usual been over-egged by the media and those who don't approve of either of them.

The constant whining criticism of the government is becoming a background noise.

I'd like to roll back to this one.

I've heard him referred to as a 'master manipulator'. So who did he manipulate? Why did anyone need 'manipulating' if Brexit was a brilliant idea in the first place?

Given it was a very close call, how many millions of people needed 'manipulating'?

So who did he 'outwit'? Did he persuade 48% of people to vote 'remain' against their better judgement? Did he persuade people to vote 'leave' against their better judgement?

Did he 'outwit' the remain campaign by persuading those who might have been wavering and needed to be 'nudged' towards voting leave.

Is he now going to 'outwit' the vast majority of the electorate who want to leave the EU with a deal, rather than the minority who want to leave without one? Brexit is a foregone conclusion, it can't be stopped regardless of public opinion about it now. It isn't going to get interesting until July when there can be no further extension to the transition period. Or January when we actually go. But this revelation that Cummings 'outwitted' people is a curious one.

I'll have to temporarily unblock the spaffer for this. See if the answer comes without playing Idiot Bingo.

You will have to go to the font strangler for an answer to this as he chose those form of words, so you might as well put me back on block.

Cummings in reading the will of the people and backing Boris to win outwitted the remoaners who had convinced themselves that they were right and yourself included that Boris would have no hope.

You have then gone on to forecast Boris's demise at every opportunity you have as usual got it spectacularly wrong.

You as I do not know if the "vast majority" want a deal or not.

So its back on block I hope ?

I think you're giving Cummings far too much credit. He didn't have to 'outwit the remoaners'. He didn't have to do anything at all. The election was handed to the Tories on a plate.

Let's be honest, it wasn't Johnson's political talent that got him elected. He's hardly got a distinguished record in that regard. Johnson may believe that the loveable buffoon facade he presents is endearing to the electorate, but, to the majority of people it doesn't exactly inspire their confidence in a would be leader.

There's only one person who can claim responsibility for the astounding Conservative win. Take a bow, Mr Jeremy Corbyn. Brexit was the main component of the election. Corbyn's policy on Brexit was totally incoherent. Listening to him from one day to the next, it was impossible to figure out what the policy actually was. Straddling the fence never works. The electorate needs to know what it's voting for. The candidate needs to present a deep commitment to it, and Johnson certainly did that. Not only was Corbyn anathema to leavers, he also managed to alienate a large number of reMAINers.

I don't believe that Corbyn is an anti-Semite, but the Labour party's inherent problem with anti-Semitism is very real. The moment any anti-Semitic acts were brought to their attention, they should have been dealt with immediately. They weren't, and that will forever be a stain on the Labour party.

I never thought that in my lifetime I would witness so many constituencies who have traditionally voted Labour, switch to Conservative. I can't think of a more damning indictment of Corbyn, and how he has let the party and traditional working class voters down. It was a shoo-in in for the Tories.

Polls indicate the vast majority want a deal.

I'll know if I'm 'spectacularly wrong' if Johnson is still PM in 6 months.

'Reading the will of' is not 'outwitting' anyone. Wetting a finger and sticking it in the air isn't 'outwitting' the wind.

Yes, back on block. It's gone from 'tribal' to 'cult'.

    Agreed.

Party members hadn't a clue. How the electorate were supposed to know is anyone's guess.

Although Johnson's commitment was initially 'let's see which way the wind blows', as I truly believe he couldn't give a monkey's about Brexit. It was a means to Number 10. Back to watching the crowd and dashing in front, again. But when he did see which way his party was leaning, he had the sense to use it. Or Cummings did.

The media had a lot to do with the electorate's opinion on Corbyn. The media are having a lot to do with the electorate's opinion on Johnson right now. Neither good. A particular bugbear is Number 10 obviously coming down hard on the BBC over Emily Maitlis's opening statement the other night. She spoke for the majority of the country, and the BBC issued a mealy-mouthed apology. Which they never do when Kuenssberg breaches impartiality rules.

I don't think this will be over for some time.
