TV in India
We used to go to India every year. We had a large, old 26" tv. and
we paid £12 in 2005 for a TaTa/Sky box. The satellite dish and fitting included. All we did was note our number on the box, go to the corner shop pay £5. In 2 hours are tv was up and running, £5 lasted about 6 weeks. 2 days before it ended a pop up, on the screen, told you it was up in 2 days left, so go and renew. We just had the basic package as it had some all English channels. If you knew of a film on a channel you didn't have. You could watch it by paying off your mobile phone. When we left it ran out. Came back 8 months later and started it up again.
Why do we have to have an 18 months contract?
When India have pay as you go.

I think we have pay or you can't go with the TV Licence.

The TV licence should be scrapped,as people are paying extortionate subscriptions for watching Sky,Virgin etc,so they are paying well over the odds to view any programmes through this system anyway, and then having the £142+ extra to pay for terrestrial TV on top of their subscription payments..Roughly works out at £982+ a year, working on a £70 contract a month for subscribing to watch satellite television, and then the TV licence fee on top....Or for just the 18 months at £70 a month which costs £1260.00 subscription fee, plus the standard £40 set-up fee added £1300.00....and probably a lot more if other packages are included,as in Entertainment pack,HD channels,Sports,PPV channels etc.

The Television Licence will surely go soon. Similar to the old Radio Licence when portable radios came out. There is no way to track all mobile usage of the channels.

The price of those packages makes the TV Licence appear to be exceptionally good value.

If you wish to pay “extortionate subscriptions” carry on, this is not the fault of the BBC, it’s yours. You have it the wrong way round, it’s the rip off subscription services which are the extra costs, your choice.
We need an independent broadcaster not tied to commercial interests, nor the whims of owners.
