Ban disposable BBQs
Lately with the hit weather & people off work there has been an increase in fires across our coastline, there is a huge one currently raging between Formby & Ainsdale.
Some have been started due to disposable BBQs.
Please sign my petition to prevent the sale of these, many thanks.

My petition:
Ban the sale of disposable BBQs
To make it illegal for the sale of disposable BBQs to the general public.
Despite being in the midst of a pandemic, the hot weather has brought people out to beaches & beauty spots. Many have brought disposable BBQs with them which have led to fires & valuable resources being diverted to tackle the aftermath. These are often left to smoulder unwatched meaning children stand on them causing burns & wildlife can get trapped in the mesh. They are another source of unwanted litter picked up by volunteers, please ban them completely from sale in shops and elsewhere.

Totally pointless, if they were to be banned it wouldn't make any difference they are easy enough to make and probably cheaper.

Please don't ban them they will only end up as freebies in a Labour manifesto at the next election.

Like so many items of convenience, very handy until they are placed in the hands of idiots, it is difficult to educate stupid.

The same could be said for Chinese lanterns but are people making their own?

BBQs are slightly easier to make, all the components are available in the pound shops.

The people dumb enough to take disposable BBQs to the woods and leave them unattended would never bother to make their own though.

What would be left if we removed all the things idiots abuse.
Its tiresome continually being restricted or taxed for things dumb people can't use sensibly.

Let's ignore the dumb people then but remember that disposable BBQs are single use items producing masses of waste per year. They are not necessary. You can buy a metal charcoal BBQ and use it time and time again for under £30. The mesh on the BBQ is a danger to wildlife, would you like me to go on?

I'm a bit split on this one. It's like a lot of things, they are perfectly serviceable in the hands of normal people, deadly in the hands of idiots.
I've used them myself when the regular barbecue has rusted. But never in public. Always in our back yard area. So I'd agree with banning them in public areas. Just as rolling up and pitching a fire anywhere you like is a bad idea.
So I'd sign one stating that. Agree about Chinese lanterns, though.

So people like me recycle the ash on the garden and the metal in the recycling.
Wouldn't dream of lighting up the pinewoods or anywhere else with it.
A cheap barbecue quickly rusts in a couple of years and gets thrown away.
They also require an expensive very un eco-friendly gas bottle or bags of charcoal.

The estimated UK sales per annum are over 1 million.
I would rather the outlets selling them was limited and payment by card only.

They are already banned from the beach, there are notices up stating so and up to a £500 fine yet this has not stopped people from taking them there and & other places such as the Moors and causing the fires we've had if late.
As for cheap metal BBQs rusting, a quick tip is once cleaned out use a little oil to wipe down the metal racks, it'll help prevent rusting.
