Robert Jenrick - worse than Cummings?
You may remember that Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick was the first minister to come to public attention when he visited his parents' house during lockdown to deliver 'medicines'.
What seems to have gone under the radar due to the Cummings affair (and not related to the pandemic) is that Jenrick has now admitted that he granted planning permission 'unlawfully' for a £1bn development on the Isle of Dogs because it didn't have the required amount of affordable housing, and was opposed by the government's own planning inspector. This just happened to be one day before Community Charges were increased, and saved the developer, a Conservative Party donor, some £40m in charges. What a coincidence!

Jenrick insists that even though the granting of the application was unlawful, there was 'no bias' .
Of course, this scandal will only be of interest to lefty losers and remoaners - to tories, it's pretty much par for the course

…tribalism thrives here!
I note with a mixture of amusement and alarm the regularity with which posters attach disparaging epithets — e.g. "rabid Remainers".
[I confess: I have accompanied usernames with specific 'emoticons' now and again, for effect. Is that the same thing?]
Culture war online tends to relish incivility.

Cummings has never said that his son is autistic. He has never claimed that, in the event that they were unable to care for their son, his autism necessitated care from his family in Durham.
Autistic or not, it must be distressing for them to see it splashed all over the internet. If their son does have autism, it's not an excuse. Countless other parents have endured isolation with autistic children. However they are entitled to privacy in regard to their son's (alleged) condition.
It does provide a better excuse for Cummings actions. I've never read that his son is autistic, but it strengthens the narrative that he couldn't just leave him with anyone.
I think the child should be left out of it. It is irrelevant and he shouldn't be put under public scrutiny. Poor kid has nothing to do with it.

The Mirror carries a story today, A MP who didn't have a London address (Allegedly dossing down in somebodies spare room) developed a cough so phoned the MP's Virus Helpline and was advised if his normal mode of transport was the train then he should use that but should then isolate!
Unbelievable!
If True.

It might garner more sympathy from the public... apart from the parents of autistic children who both contracted Covid-19 and stayed in their own home. They are feeling pretty peeved about it. Granted, not too many people have a suitable bolt hole close to trusted family members. I'm pretty sure that if one was available, a lot of people would do likewise. When it comes to our children's well being, all bets are off.

Agreed. Children should be off limits.

Couldn't agree more I would drive my child as I said to Lands End if I thought it was better.
Why the mountain of nonsense about Cummings its hypocrisy on a grand scale.

Back on track from the righty winner, I agree it does need some investigation.
It's potentially a far more important a story than Cummings looking for a safe haven for his child.
Which if people were honest most would do and a lot have.

or Calderwood twice going on a jolly to her holiday home.
Give me strength.

But, going back on topic, did any of the examples you quote give £40m of public money to a party donor, with the minister responsible admitting that what he did was unlawful?
I deliberately pointed out in my posts that this case has nothing to do with Covid-19, and I suggested in the title that unlawful acts leading to such a waste of public funds are much worse than anything Cummings did. I thought you'd be pleased to read that, but you seem to prefer jumping on the party political hobby horse. I highlighted this story because Jenrick is a government minister, not because he's a tory.

If I thought my child could end up going into care in a pandemic I be very grateful for the lockdown guidelines to prevent that happening.

And this contradiction.
"I deliberately pointed out in my posts that this case has nothing to do with Covid-19, "
"You may remember that Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick was the first minister to come to public attention when he visited his parents' house during lockdown to deliver 'medicines'."

Jenrick must have known the application would have been refused if it was unlawful.
Permission was denied.
The decision on building plans will now be taken by another Government Minister hopefully denied again and given to a law abiding application.
Party Donors are perfidious for favours.

What if Cummings had a form of autism such as Asperger's Syndrome?
Going back to the link you gave me on the disabled diabetic journalist
with a son who has autism.
I am familiar with his particular condition in which the Pancreas has stopped completely or producing very little insulin it is a very big risk factor in Covid -19
Remaining at home near his supporting hospital outweighs any argument to move near family in the 'Country'.
Not only does he need insulin injections(someone to administer them if he ill) a very accurate blood glucose measure and enzyme supplements the insulin would normally work on.

Sigh.
Because it's as extreme an example of whataboutery that I can think of - you don't have to take it literally.
