    Phenomenal

It has been many years past since I have seen so many people on the Beach, in the Parks, along the coastal road - absolutely amazing! From Weld Road entrance which was packed with cars, along the coastal road - where traffic was parked on the cycle path all the way from Weld Road to the Southport Beach slip road. The beach was very dry - no sign of mud just salt flats and hundreds of people having fun. Several people had set up wind breakers, or were carrying umbrellas as sun shades, there was even a large group of people carrying one of those big hooker pipes down on the beach.

There was no litter left on the beach, from what I could see, but the few bins that were available, were overflowing. The parks were very busy with many people sitting around or playing ball games - no way can our park be closed after this.
KFC on the Plaza were enjoying a phenomenal trade, as was the Turkish restaurant on Lord Street which had opened illegally, I believe - people were sitting down for lunch, and the Indian clothing shop nearby on Lord Street was also open. Bit unfair to local traders, I thought. A wonderful glimpse of past times in Southport.

WTF, Sooner stay away from busy areas and live to see next summer too.

It just goes to show how many stupid people there are in this country that these areas are so busy.

You've got to have a screw or two loose to think going to Southport beach is a good idea with so many people on it.

It would appear we learn nothing from history.

Oh it will be history, when we follow the exact route of the Spanish flu.

If you can't stay in your home for a few weeks to save thousands of live, that fair enough, just don't moan about it if you fall ill.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. That's where common sense comes into it. If you don't look at that beach and think to yourself. "hmm many be that's not a good idea" . Then I guess natural selection does have a place in today society.

I guess 38,500 deaths isn't enough for some people to give a stuff. Or a third of a million world wide.

Most of the problem on Southport Front is caused by the Council, the Park n Ride - Shut, Dunes Carpark x 2 - Shut, Beach - Shut, Pier - Shut.

If people exercise their legal right and turn up to find facilities closed for no valid reason they are going to be frustrated and park anywhere. Closing these facilities is making a bad situation worse, nobody is going to turn up for a day out and turn around and go home because the carpark is shut but there is a good chance that they may never come again.

"facilities closed for no valid reason"?
One good reason for keeping notably parking & beach attraction "facilities" closed is that the Council (presumably) does not wish to be seen to invite visitors from afar. This is another instance of the mixed messaging emanating from central government. Who, exactly, are the messages encouraging? Those cautious citizens who wish to contain the spread of virus? Or, the restless (many of whom perhaps feel invulnerable) and reckless?

Take it that penalties for parking violations are an inadvertent tool available to Council officials whose job it is to protect the public.

If the council open facilities, even more people are going to come here from out of town. The cases of the virus aren't reducing in the North West, nor are the deaths. The more people come here, the more chance of us catching it.

Here are the NW figures today. Updated in the last few hours. Of all of them, only one, St Helens, has a reduction in cases - 750 down from 751.

I'd love to welcome people back to the town, when it is safe. It isn't safe yet, and won't be for a long time, in my opinion.

I understand people want to get out in the good weather. I too would like to get out in the good weather without virus carrying idiots, with no concept of social distancing, crawling all over the place. Unfortunately as soon as I go outside I'm sidestepping selfish day trippers who seem to think the rules don't apply to them.

You're right in saying that the number of people who die in the UK from sepsis is astonishing. But, to put things in perspective, if Covid-19 had been left to run rife across the country, the number of deaths would have been far higher.

There are an estimated 48,000 deaths p.a. from sepsis in the UK. In the five months since the first Covid-19 case was reported, there have been 38,489 deaths in the UK. Without restrictions on people's movement, closing non-essential businesses and following recommended hygiene procedures, I dread to think what the numbers would be. The virus would have spread like wildfire, resulting in a final annual death tally that would have eclipsed anything that you and I have ever seen.

I know that you've been hit hard during the last few months. You've been ill and worried sick about your business and a gloomy future. With what seems to be an inevitable second wave, it's become increasingly difficult to look forward to a better future. In the short term, I think we have to grit our teeth and live life in a way that's alien to us. It's not the way that any of us want to live, but many more people will die if we don't sacrifice some of our freedom.

    Take care of yourself, Jamy.

It would appear we learn nothing from history.

But we do learn from history - the facts on previous epidemics and pandemics are very interesting and eye opening in contrast to this new pandemic.

The government allowed protest meetings to be held in London, Manchester and Liverpool - highly polluted areas at the best of times and buildings which prevent natural air flow.

Planeloads of immigrant workers have been arriving into the UK from polluted areas, without these people having health checks??

What is good for the geese is good for the gander, wouldn't you say? When we leave the EU for good - there should not be any repeats of this, that is for sure.

Leaving the EU happened 5 months ago, people arriving without health checks is totally down to this Government not performing any.
