More money spent on pop up cycle lanes as contractors install bollards on Hoghton Street this morning.

Nice flat slalom courses that the council are putting in,ideal for all those hundreds of local cyclists to weave in and out of on their travels around town....

Actually the coast road cycle path refurbishment is nowhere near finished. There are sections that are just rough stone, sections with potholes, some where you can't cycle at all and have to get off and walk. Rather worryingly, a stretch that has been tarmacked, from Weld Rd, already has plants pushing their way through. There is no way you could navigate it safely on a road bike.

The cycle path was a secondary part of the work on the Coast Road, the main works were to improve drainage to ensure the road doesn’t flood. (And I think you’ll find that cyclists are also tax payers!)

I agree that the cycle path should be used, but if they’re two abreast, I’m guessing that they were out ‘Tour de France’ Peloton style, in which case, the road is probably the better option.

There was a bloke walking down this cycle lane earlier despite the pavement being clear.

The looney leftie Labour councillors playing grab a grant again. As long as Bootle is well funded and not messed about with, they don't care a toss about Southport.

I work in Bootle, along with numerous other Southport residents. I’m quite happy for money to be spent there as it makes my working environment so much nicer.

As for ‘not messed about with’ Stanley Road is getting a pop up cycle lane and is far busier than any of the roads in Southport which have gained the pop up cycle lanes.

As for ‘they don’t care a toss for Southport’ and ‘as long as Bootle is well funded’ I suggest you go and check things out as those statements you’ve made are way off the mark!

Ok, let's stop trying to provide facilities for the cyclists, they are unpleasable!!

I drove the Birkdale to Ainsdale Coast Road on Saturday, the cycle path for the whole stretch was complete although some parts were not double width and the dividing road / cycle lane markers were missing for about a mile, but I reckon the whole way was accessible, and I saw maybe 10 cyclists on the path. Ainsdale roundabout end was tricky as they cycle path was blocked by plastic fencing. The cycle path was clearer than the roadway which had traffic lights on maybe 1/4 mile stretch in the middle.

Agreed Millsey, I've had no problems using the Coast Rd cycle path. Yes it needs some final clearing up and is narrowed in places however what works have been completed haven't made any difference to my cross country bike. Meanwhile yet again the 'road racing muppets' claim not to like it and continue to use the road itself.............

In your rush to cram in as many stereotypical clichés all you've done is contradict yourself.

There's been signs up saying "cycle path closed-find alternative route" for the last couple of weeks. So no surprise parts of it were difficult to ride while it's still being worked on.

I didn't realise it had to be in constant use.

Many roads aren't in constant use by motor vehicles either.
