Could a combination of the gross mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic and resulting unnecessary deaths that have resulted, and the farce that the Brexit trade negotiations have become (a farce brought about by this governments rigid ideological stance and which defies the logical and pragmatic approach) could all this bring this shambolic government down? Very many people who voted for the Conservatives, including many Conservative’s and natural Conservative voters themselves are regretting putting the incompetent Johnson/Cummings cohort into power. The compounded results of the current pandemic and the so-called trade “negotiations” will become apparent and felt next year once we have completely left the transition period with the EU and with the no-deal that the Government wanted all along – it will be the perfect storm. Instead we may be trading with Japan and Australia (halfway around the world) and Africa and others, and the US with their lower standards of food production and animal welfare, instead of with our nearest European neighbours (an hour away) with their higher standards (the CE mark is recognised throughout the world as a standard of high quality) and of food quality and safety. One thing you can rely on, will be the Governments excuse next year when everything goes down the pan, that it will be the EU’s fault for not negotiating a trade deal with us. Remember before you accept this excuse, that we are trying to change the EU’s rules in order to get what we want; this is like a footballer leaving his team but still wanting to play but under his/her rules against the other ten players established rules – it can’t work! So the current pandemic can be a useful tool for the Government to hide behind, whilst appearing to be “doing all it can” to overcome the pandemic and make people “safe”. But remember this: the original decision of this government was to let the coronavirus rip through our country to achieve so-called “herd immunity” and which would have resulted in carnage! And before you let them off the hook by saying they were advised, also remember that advisers advise, but governments decide; and they decided initially that economics comes first and people come second, until it slowly dawned on them what the backlash would be, so they were late to the table on prevention. Anyway, next year (for those of us that are left) we can look forward to gradual shortages of some food products with significant price increases resulting. Problems with medicine supply, and the reduction in the quality of food stuff and other products that we buy, and a whole host of other problems. You may dismiss all this any way you think, but wait and see what happens.

There's a distinct possibility that increasing numbers of disaffected Tory MPs will have a go at removing Boris (and hence his cabinet) next year.
His performance has been absolutely terrible during this crisis and Brexit will add to the chaos.

The strain on him is becoming more evident and he may even welcome an exit opportunity.

Bit of formatting might help,

but the answer is a categorical no.

Most sensibly minded people see a Pandemic with an unknown virus as a collective issue for the country and realise that whatever you think of the government and Brexit they and most importantly their scientific advisers are working well.

The collective stupidity over the virus is no better evidenced by the faux furore over testing.

No we didn't have thousands of trained lab assistants and labs standing by.
But despite this we have now tested more than any country in Europe.

The demand from the worried well temporarily overwhelmed the system.

They probably brought a few dozen toilet rolls on the way home instead of educating themselves on the actual symptoms.

I know of people who keep having tests because its free.

Now we are bringing in some control which is overdue but good.

It will need to catch up but it is entirely understandable and the people who are working hard in the system have my thanks it certainly isn't Boris or Matt Hancock.

The reality is,

0.11% (95% credible interval: 0.09% to 0.14%) of the population in England or around 1 in 900 people (95% credible interval: 1 in 1,200 to 1 in 700) have the virus

Of 208,730 swab tests collected over this period (six weeks to the 18 th September 136 people from 118 households tested positive.

I'm afraid you're wasting your time criticising the government on here. You might get sense if it was a Green or Lib-Dem government. If it was a Labour government handling the situation like this, there'd have been calls for a military coup.

But generally, considering they are supposed to be so patriotic, in footballing terms they are 'club before country'. There's no room for debate. It'll eventually come back to 'Corbyn'. There was a thread in the news section regarding Sefton Council's response to Coronavirus. It took just 5 posts to get to 'whatabout Labour': Any government would have struggled with something so unprecedented and Labour would not have done any better if thick as mince Dawn Butler's... Agree with the first part, but the 'whatabout' was ridiculous.There are some on here that can enter a discussion without screeching 'whatabout', but they are few and far between. Mainly any perceived slight at all, the tiniest of slurs, is met with howls of derision.

Team before country. All the time. Every time.

That is unknown and right now totally irrelevant.

Corbyn was blamed for a lot, but he has had nothing whatsoever to do with any of the current farce.

Most of know that the diehard Tories always look for someone to blame, but making dubious “what ifs” is scraping the barrel.

The processing of tests must be quickened up, there's been talk of 12 min results & 90 min tests which are probably pie in the sky but getting results turned around quickly is a must to cut down the spread.
My stepson was on the phone to the missus, his lad and his missus had a test yesterday, why I don't know, but they were told they will get the results in 8- 12 DAYS, no instructions to isolate etc unless feeling ill so they could be spreading it for the next week or so unknowingly.
This is totally unacceptable, if they get a positive result they would probably not be contagious anyway.

This is exactly what Boris and the ERG are doing, going to Brussels pretending to negotiate a deal they don't want. At least Corbyn & Starmer said they didn't want a deal because they didn't want to leave.

A legitimate claim, the Border Force / Agency has been decimated by cuts rather than invested in to enable it to perform it's job.

An academic question. One thing that is for sure is that they would have made the NHS central to test and trace (crucial in the eyes of WHO) instead of appropriating the name and not have dished out important contracts to cronies, some with brand new companies.

Unfortunately, our Prime Minister Hand-me-your-virus and President Drinkbleach in the US are in office at a time when we need leaders like Jacinda Ardern.

You must think you know something we all don't, what Corbyn wanted.

He was asked on many occasions and remained on his fence.

As a heir apparent to Tony Benn I would suggest he wanted out like all good socialists but didn't want to split his party.
