Are Morrisons trying to start a panic buying surge?
They're rationing toilet rolls and disinfectant.

Some people don't need an excuse to panic buy and queue, and Morrisons seem to be trying to give them every opportunity. They say it's designed to prevent panic buying, but I think it might have the opposite effect.

I think you're right. As soon as people hear the word 'rationing' they'll fear they are missing out on their share.
I didn't expect this behaviour until late October, but I suppose the recent surge in infections has brought it on prematurely.
There are no shortages, the panic buyers will simply interrupt the 'just in time' delivery system. It's self fulfilling.

It doesn't take much to spook the idiots but perhaps the odd sensible one among them may recall that Covid doesn't give you the sh*ts or give you an insatiable yearning for rice and pasta.

It's a good marketing ploy, if you tell people they can only have three packs of toilet rolls many will buy 2 or 3 'to be on the safe side' if people start stockpiling, it surprises me I would have thought that many still have plenty stashed away.

They can see a second wave coming, if you look at the R rate it’s already here.

Don't know about you, but I'm not even sure the first wave went away.
Just been in Sainys. Nothing to worry about, but a few shelves looked a bit bare. After the panic buying in March / April, they'll just increase the deliveries this time, I imagine.

Maybe I take this all to seriously but for me it looks like a serious situation of lockdown for the best reasons was cancelled because the sun came out and everyone wanted to go to the beach or have half price dinners.
Once again you couldn’t write it any better if you wanted to kill off the remaining elderly and infirm or vulnerable .
I live on my own and sometimes don’t talk to anyone for days,( happy with that tho ) I am sorry for those and the relatives of those who don’t take appropriate measures or can’t see the dangers. For me if I miss a year and live another ten because of it then fine.
People take this too lightly for me and some even think it’s a hoax, well I take it super seriously and have more or less remained in lockdown since 2 weeks before the first wave as I saw the first wave coming before Christmas, it doesn’t take psychic ability or special knowledge all you have to do is pay attention to different news outlets and how other countries are doing, and it’s here now.. todays R rate on Sky news was between 1.1 and 1.5 ( although breaking news is overshadowing this ) all the rules seem to contradict each other and some exemptions for Britons returning are laughable if not really dangerous to the population .
Luckily I haven’t needed to buy stacks of toilet paper as I only have one arse but I am intent on keeping it safe, get ready to be locked down again .

I think its likely we will have targeted and stricter lockdowns but unless they flood the streets with the Police and Army they will struggle to enforce.
Pictures last night of people leaving pubs at ten loaded with drink bottles to carry on socialising and the persistent failure to adhere to isolating rules is a massive problem.
If people don't co-operate after being traced or with controls as it appears their not we will have to make an example of a few.

The Villaggio Cucina in Birkdale Village has just closed because a customer, who wasn't showing symptoms, has tested positive for the virus.
It isn't clear why the customer went for a test - possibly they started showing symptoms after their visit.
Birkdale Village is like VE Day most evenings - there's no way that the tables outside most of the premises allow different groups to keep apart.
It just goes to show that social distancing is essential if you really must go out and socialise. Unfortunately, many people seem to think that if someone isn't showing obvious symptoms then they are not infected.
The initial lockdown, although belated, had a significant effect on infection and death rates, but since the relaxation it seems that too many people think it's all over.
Edit: we have a new neighbour, an elderly gent, who insists on trying to shake hands with people to introduce himself. When they decline and cite the virus, he laughs it off and says it's a 'state of mind' and 'everything's going to be all right'. This is the kind of mindset that is prolonging the infection and death rate. It's easy for people to label you as paranoid, but more than 40,000 people in this country alone have perished, and I really don't think it's a laughing matter.

We have targeted ans stricter lockdowns but nobody knows the rules and they are not enforced, the other day they reckoned only about 20% of people coming back from abroad who were supposed to self isolate for 4 days actually did, that on top of all those who scurried back early to avoid it.
Add in the ones who are being told to self isolate because of possible contact - little over 10% actually do and the orgy of freshers week it is little wonder it is spreading like wildfire.
The Rules & Regulations are a complete waste of time and effort unless enforced, I went to the park yesterday afternoon and was amazed at the number of kids there, is Friday not a school day any more?
If they have been sent home that is where they should have been not in the park.

To avoid the shame and dirty looks that you get in the supermarket when your cart is full of TP, I've found the perfect solution. It also saves you money, what's not to like?

I know the freshers could spread this like wildfire, but I'm also concerned about them. As things stand, most will be away from home for the first time, no pastoral care, no real guidance. Most aren't socialising as they normally would. I saw a few on the news that are basically locked down, no access even to laundry facilities. They can't go home, probably won't be able to at Christmas, and they are having lectures online anyway. So why allow them there at all? If their education is online, and they are missing out on the fun / growth aspect, there's little other reason to be there.
Of course, it keeps the money rolling in for the unis and landlords.
My niece had a hard time as a fresher a few years back without all this. She just wasn't the most gregarious type, got really homesick and wound up leaving. Add today's predicament, and after the exam debacle, and I think more than a few are going to lose out on their education.
It isn't as though nobody could possibly have anticipated it. Second wave in Autumn was virtually guaranteed.

Living in fear is far more life destroying than any pandemic. You have even highlighted one piece of false news yourself. Why would anyone have gone for a test after attending one establishment? Did that person not go to any other establishment in the four days it takes for symptoms to appear? Is that really likely?
The media are now referring to 'cases' not deaths. A quick check on the local numbers hospitalised with Covid 19 for Ormskirk and Southport hospital show that there have been no admissions for several weeks. A double check of those official figures with local hospital staff support this.
A Freedom of Information application to inquire how many fines have been issued against people not wearing masks is zero.
Coronavirus is active during the colder more humid months of December to March - check WHO and The Lancet.
The tests being carried out show evidence of any virus, including the common cold - whether the microbes are active or dead. WHO
The number of symptoms published in the media far exceed those associated with any Coronavirus and is intended to create panic in anyone who has even one of those symptoms - which could mean many psychologically believe they have the disease when they do not.
Are you so confident that the British public have never been misled by the government at anytime? WW1,WW2, Iraq War, Battle of Orgreaves, Afghan War, Syrian War, Libya, Irish troubles, etc., etc., ALL of which have shown that the people were misled.
There is at present a Global Depression we are told. The last one occurred in 2009 and began with foreclosures and bankruptcies, people defaulting on debts, leading to a banking crisis where credit dried up, unemployment rocketed and a great recession followed.
In 2020, we were in another Global recession before this outbreak occurred where economic activity shrunk markedly and businesses began to close, unemployment began to rise. After the announcement of a pandemic, business continued to decline at an ever increasing rate, unemployment continues to rise at an alarming rate, loss of wages, falling business revenues which have depressed demand that could lead to further bankruptcies, reducing credit which reduces demand further. In other words - both are results of Global recession - the pandemic allows for an excuse.
Your new neighbour is quite right. He is no doubt going off past history of contagious outbreaks in the Anglosphere - but if you are in doubt, all the information is given on the internet. It is all in the mind - put there intentionally. You have questioned one point yourself, and thousands of others are doing the same. This is why the protest marches against the restrictions are now numbering in their thousands - not just a few.
