Definite Emergency Steps
London panic: Chaos after council urges residents to pack emergency 'grab and go bag'
A LONDON council has caused panic among residents after it urged people to pack an emergency "grab and go bag" in case they have to flee their home at short notice. EXPRESS
We're working with our Emergency Planning team to send out a tweet a day advising people how to be prepared in different situations.”
The panic comes as millions of Londoners are preparing for the possibility of stricter coronavirus restrictions this week.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he had concocted a plan with local council leaders and public health experts to curb the spread of coronavirus in the capital.
Speaking to Sky News on Monday evening, the Labour mayor said: “In London we know, unfortunately, that this virus is spreading across our city without the positive tests being shown because testing in London is today a mess as indeed it was back in March.

Why the panic? Surely this isn't related to Covid-19? It's standard practice in many countries, including here in Canada, to advise citizens to have a bag packed in case of emergencies, such as natural distasters, extreme weather etc. We get tornado warnings in the Summer and extreme weather warnings all Winter long. We're even advised what items to carry in the car during the Winter months.

Do a spot of checking before you start getting all wide eyed and frothing at the mouth, Wandsworth Council put that out in a tweet as part of a National preparedness campaign? have already apologised for lack of clarity as to what this refers to.
Just to spoil your little bit of propaganda entirely, this has got sod all to do with London’s Mayor or C-19.

Most councils have instructions on grab-bags or bug-out bags. Sefton Council directs you to 'Merseyside Prepared', their suggestions for a grab bag are here.
Everyone should have one. Like insurance, you hope you never have to use it, but it's there if you do. 'Prepping' isn't just for armed militia in Texas compounds or crackpots who've built their own bunker out of a shipping container.

Yes, well a couple of points there. The UK is nowhere near as large as Canada it takes an average of 3 miles to get to any village in the UK. The UK does not experience the great freezing periods that Canada does nor massive tornadoes. The only people here who need to have a bag ready to go are pregnant women near the end of their term and those going mountain climbing.

Wooly hat
Hand gel
Wipes

You need one of those emergency tinfoil blankets, rations and some polythene sheet to use as a ground sheet or make an emergency shelter.
Oh, and a carrot for the donkey that carries it all around for you!

You live in the city, you have got your grab bag in case of lockdown so if the government impose a lockdown due to the rise in Covid cases in London given that figures are seriously under reported anyway and likely most other places in the country would be locked down at that point and not very receptive to people ( escapees ) from the city bringing the virus with them with schools closed again and all that then....
Where are you going to run to??.

It's nothing to do with the virus.
All councils recommend a grab bag for emergencies. Could be a fire in yours or a neighbours house. A flood. A gas leak meaning you need to evacuate. There are many reasons why you might need to leave your home at short notice. Hopefully it never happens, but it's useful if you do.
