Given the petty vindictive actions of the EU over the last few weeks (the Government could invoke Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol if the EU continues its bad faith behaviour - yes "bad faith" is a standard international trade term/clause), and the EU putting exports before principles with its recent agreement with China, reiterates that the UK electorate were probably right in voting to leave the EU. — post #292

Let us not forget that David Cameron and George Osborne courted China vigorously in the face of objections from allies and human rights activists.
Also, "petty" and "vindictive" are equally applicable to our UK government.
If it is the case that the UK voted to depart the EU for the sake of "principles", it is not altogether clear what those principles are; but we are going to pay for them, nevertheless.

Out of the mix of good and bad that Trump did his approach to China was spot on, the stirrings are about again of the Wuhan labs involvement.

Thank goodness that policy has now been dropped, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool City Council's overtures to China for investment is scaled back?
PS do you always automatically take the corrupt, undemocratic, protectionist EU point of view over the UK??

Liverpool City Council's overtures to China were part of the UK government's trade & inward investment junkets. [Nice diversionary touch, though.]

I was never an enthusiastic supporter of the EU. I advocate more responsive, democratically accountable governmental institutions at all levels.

Many have argued that BREXIT will enable transparently virtuous foreign and trade policies.

Chance would be a fine thing!

We'll watch and see how the UK's trade policies work vis-à-vis China and other deplorable regimes.

We do not yet know what applies under this administration.
This administration is arguably the least competent administration in living memory. It is faced with Hydra-headed policy conundrums in the most trying circumstances since, probably, the second world war.

Why is it that we have this collection of clowns running the government? It is because

• our political institutions have only ever been minimally democratic;
• our representatives emphatically DO NOT represent the population, well; and
• there is currently no incentive or pressure among MPs for change.

That could change, too!

Sounding like this was very probably Chinas (biological) Chernobyl. If this pandemic did originate in the lab, the world would want compensation....No wonder evidence has been conveniently 'lost' - duh!

Brexit has got absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the vaccine programme, the scheme within the EU is still the responsibility of individual countries, the EU plan was a bulk buying plan only.
