Regardless of the claims it is 'fundamentally specious', it's a fact that Brexit was favoured by the over 60s. And those less educated. Mostly a combination of both, I'd wager. I'd also wager that UKIP had more or less exactly the same demographic. Older and not the sharpest tools in the box. According to all of the polling sites, anyway.

So it seems that those whose future isn't exactly long term took a choice away from those who will actually live through it.

Playing Devil's Advocate, it also has to be said that the old fools actually turned out to vote, so determined were they that Nigel Farage was right and the EU was just trying to imprison us all and stop us from buying cheap salmon from the Faroe Islands. Whereas many of the youngsters and remain camp simply didn't bother voting, either through laziness or the belief that shooting ourselves in the foot would be deranged.

The same old fools will be delighted when Al Kemal either says the EU were just unreasonable and wouldn't give us the same benefits of membership without paying in. So no deal.

Or waves a turd sprinkled with 3 sequins and says 'behold - The Deal'. Cue all the sycophants claiming 'we had faith in Boris'.

I guarantee it will be a Pyrrhic victory, either way. Nobody will come out of this better off, unless your aim is an unregulated tax haven or paying twice as much for food next year than we did this year.

    But hey - 'sovrinty'.
Hey watch it with the old, it’s a fair while since I saw sixty in my age, I certainly didn’t hark back to days gone by

The world is a whole different place now. We no longer build the majority of the worlds ships and locomotives, or supply the world with cloth from our mills, or even export coal and steel, etc. Former colonies/markets like India have moved on and gone their own way. Meanwhile, forty years of trade with our European partners has seen strong and lasting ties formed.

The futile attempt to turn back the clock via Brexit, to how things were post 1945 is never going to work out well. This country, sad to say, has been well and truly led up the garden path!

I disagree completely. Trade among the Commonwealth countries is far more beneficial to the UK because of the higher quality of goods and trade without language problems. We did not know at the time of joining the EEC, that part of the agreement meant that the UK would not be allowed to trade individually with any country - trade had to come under the union rules, so we had to import from Europe. The food was of a lesser quality and not very popular on the British markets.

Trade with Europe has been decreasing steadily since 1993, while our export trade outside of the EU member countries has been increasing. The single market introduced by Thatcher - meant much of our industry.

Our industry has been the major victim of joining the EEC. Where the UK used to be self sufficient, it is now sadly lacking mainly due, not totally, but mainly due to having to support the single market.

We once had a 45 million tonne of steel - now we trying to save just 11 million tonne. We had 400,000 tonne of Aluminium - now 43,000 tonne. Cement, fisheries, shipping, etc.,

Between 1951 and 1973 the output of metals rose by 3%, since joining the EU it has declined by more than 6%. In the same period - food ad drink production increased by 5.6% per year - but since the EU this too, has fallen, textiles output increased by 2,6% - since the EU it has fallen 6%. Even if the EU was not completely to blame - becoming a member certainly did not improve things.

In some cases the EU policies have been the main causes of disaster. e.g. The Common Fisheries Policy, the Agricultural Policy etc., Our energy intensive businesses were severely damaged by the highprices demanded by the EU Commonn Energy Policy..

The EU has prevented UK subsiidy of industry under it state aids rules but teh EU has often given loans and grants to businesses to encourage them to set up elsewhere in Europe - van production lost to Turkey, Cars to Slovakia, chocolate to Poland, domestic appliances to Holland, etc., which would have remained in the UK had it not been for EU grants.
The EU created a nation of people who relied on a Nanny State -people who have lost the ability to stand up and face responsibilities - to fight, to challenge, to learn and earn - the UK has a lot of catching up to do but without the weight of a slow moving behemoth to slow us down, we will get there and we will be proud that we did.

It's not that simple to avoid it.....Boycotting meats that don't display country of origin (a dead giveaway) is one thing, when buying in a shop. But eating out will be another thing entirely - ensuring provenance of steaks, chickens etc, is going to be very problematic indeed.

That's simple you ask and if you don't like the answer just as you can now you walk.

Why you think EU produced food is universally good defeats me there is some real rubbish as we have found out with the horse and donkey meat scandals.

    A) My health then depends on the word of a waiter? Me, I'd want to see it in black and white, e.g. the packaging that meat came in, which could lead to a lot of walking!

    B) Nowt wrong with horsemeat, provided it's clearly listed as an ingredient. Btw, I ate plenty whilst working for the Greeks.

How long did they have you chained to the oars for, it must have been cargo as you wouldn't go fast enough for Ramming Speed.

So when you go out to eat you ask to see the packaging the ingredients came in and check its authenticity?

Don't forget we have had dodgy meat whilst members of your beloved EU.

Six-month contracts, though sometimes did eight (which paid an extra ten percent).

    A) Never needed to, felt safe enough thanks to EU policy on growth hormones/chlorinating chickens, etc. But as you'll be aware, that's all likely to change for the worse after a US trade deal.

    B) I've occasionally eaten dodgy meat in the US and other places too. But i wouldn't want to make a habit of it.

Yes Waitrose is storing meat at Windscale waiting for us to leave

The fact that we get processed chicken from Poland, Thailand, Brazil and China whilst members of the EU must have passed you by.

Following a new COVID-19 outbreak, members of China’s Communist Party say that low standards of hygiene in China’s wholesale food markets and supply chain vulnerabilities need to be urgently addressed.

Your very gullible you really don't know what your talking about do you ?

Not as gullible as those who were taken in, by the load of old cobblers we were fed by the leave campaign!

Btw, imported foods from China will, unlike in their domestic market, have had to meet EU quality standards....Any that failed to, would soon be stopped from entering.

Those scandals occurred with regulations in place, how much worse would it be without those regulations?

That is a repeated mantra in the media. The general public who supported Leave, spoke no lies! I kept repeating, on this site - why I had chosen to Leave. All the facts were accurate - but because most of the posters were unaware of those facts and had not a clue about the EU - I was classed as a nutter and no-one wanted to listen. Those who do not listen, never learn and those who never learn are those who wanted to remain with a slow moving, backward behemoth of a failing marketing engine. The UK has been retarded by the EU - we have a hell of lot of catching up to do to reach the level of previous third world countries which overtook the EU and which are far more successful.

Seems Johnson is waiting for the results of the US election before he decides on a no deal or a shite deal.

Trump is pro-Brexit, Biden is pro-Belfast Agreement and less likely to hand us a deal.

So we've gone from being a leading nation in the world's largest trading bloc to being dependent on an orange psychopath thousands of miles away.

All those cards we hold, do they show a picture of Johnson, pants down, bending over, with the Trumpaloompa behind him? And if Biden gets in, will the cards show Al Kemal on his knees in front of Barnier?

We've taken back control - and handed it to American voters.

Such sovereignty. Fingers crossed for that sequinned turd of a deal, then.
