As you know there are many roads where that is impossible the carriageway isn't wide enough for vehicles to leave that much room.

Why do you not think before you post ?

I think you need to start to take due consideration of the amount of smilies deployed, and of the atypically high smilie-to-text ratio.

If all drivers had showed due consideration for riders, e.g. by always leaving at least 1.5m clearance when passing - there would be never have been a need for cycle lanes in the first place.....Drivers, with their inconsiderate behaviour, have only themselves to blame!

Always the motorist at fault, then you wonder at the reaction you get?????

Many roads? Name a couple.

Only roads I can think of where that would be the case, are single-track moss roads with passing places....When I encounter a bunch of riders in that situation, I treat them as 'a vehicle' and pull in for the guys.

Unless a road is exceptionally wide, I find I invariably have to encroach onto the other side of a carriageway, when passing a bike. It's never been a problem for me to do that, but then I'm not an impatient or inconsiderate type of driver.

What I have noticed, is an increase in regular cyclists riding side-by-side. They feel they now have to do his, because they're sick of drivers barrelling dangerously past at very close quarters. Believe me, after having had a 30-ton truck do it to me with inches to spare, I don't blame them for riding like that at all!

So many choose to drive nowadays, that the roads are pretty much always packed. I'd never get anywhere, if I kept pulling in and waiting for clear roadspace before continuing.....Having said that, I'm happy to pull aside at the first available passing-place on single-track roads, when there's a vehicle stuck behind.

NO they don’t have to ride side by side and far being safer, I would think they put themselves in more danger, incidentally how do you feel about 3 cyclists riding side by side oblivious of other traffic?

Well these three "heroes" were using more road than a combine harvester, had little option but to let them know I was there, then of course I get the standard fingers in the air and the "friendly" Foff as I went past, these idiots do cycling more harm than good.
