    Ashford residents were left fuming after Kent County Council reduced Mace Lane, Somerset Road and New Street to just a single lane last Monday.

    Far more pollution is caused by slow moving traffic!

    Unless a road is exceptionally wide, I find I invariably have to encroach onto the other side of a carriageway, when passing a bike. It's never been a problem for me to do that, but then I'm not an impatient or inconsiderate type of driver.

    What I have noticed, is an increase in regular cyclists riding side-by-side. They feel they now have to do his, because they're sick of drivers barrelling dangerously past at very close quarters. Believe me, after having had a 30-ton truck do it to me with inches to spare, I don't blame them for riding like that at all!

    I accept I am slow-moving and think my actions show consideration for others, why wouldn't you suggest they do the same it's much safer.

    So many choose to drive nowadays, that the roads are pretty much always packed. I'd never get anywhere, if I kept pulling in and waiting for clear roadspace before continuing.....Having said that, I'm happy to pull aside at the first available passing-place on single-track roads, when there's a vehicle stuck behind.

    NO they don’t have to ride side by side and far being safer, I would think they put themselves in more danger, incidentally how do you feel about 3 cyclists riding side by side oblivious of other traffic?

    If I had been riding alongside another bike, when that 30-tonner approached, he'd have had to slow down and wait behind for a safe place to pass...So, whatever drivers may think about it, it's a strategy that works.

    Three abreast? No need for it imo. I guess that must occasionally happen, but can't think of any circumstances where someone would need to do it.

    Well these three "heroes" were using more road than a combine harvester, had little option but to let them know I was there, then of course I get the standard fingers in the air and the "friendly" Foff as I went past, these idiots do cycling more harm than good.
