Grant Shapps covers his ***? vis-à-vis Telegraph readers
- The original post appears to be copied & pasted straight out of the Telegraph, a source notorious for its indignation — not least on behalf of oppressed motorists.
- The article conflates distinct initiatives — Emergency Active Travel and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
- The article notes [well down the page] that review and modification have been part of the first round of the Emergency Active Travel cycle routes; and that
- a subsequent round of funding will allow Councils time to canvas local views.
- “Schemes must balance the needs of cyclists and pedestrians with the needs of other road users, including motorists and local businesses." Well, who would've thought?
Grant Shapps
Grant Shapps is a low wattage Minister in a Cabinet of dim bulbs. This government surpasses its predecessors in antagonizing all sides of just about every policy initiative it produces.
Given that the 'Low Traffic Neighbourhoods' initiative was not rolled-out urgently in the cause of virus containment and that along with Active Travel it has been developing in response to the blight of excessive motor vehicle traffic and dire air quality, Grant Shapps' weighing-in on the topic this weekend is a bit of common and garden variety politicing. I doubt very much that Shapps had Southport in mind. In any case as things stand, it is motorists who will have to 'give way' at this junction.

Just to get this right, you're complaining about someone brining stoves into "just about every thread under the sun" ?
You bring your 'Pith and Piddle' nonsense into just about every thread!
More hypocrisy!

Depends entirely on the perspective the subject is viewed from. For that, we need first to ask the question; what is a town centre for?
Is it:
1. To function as quality space that people can enjoy at a relaxed pace. A place where they can meet, stroll around the shops in safety, visit cafes, bars, hairdressers, offices, entertainments, libraries, etc?
2. Or is its primary role to act as a main traffic hub, incorporating busy 'A' route/s. Enabling all manner of vehicles to pass through, on the way to destinations beyond the centre as quickly as possible?
Because at present, this town centre is attempting to be both - yet apparently failing to achieve either!

Fyi, the stoves we supply/install are good for the planet. Not only are you unlikely to see smoke emitted from them, due to incorporation of the latest cleanburn technology. But users also have the satisfaction of knowing they are keeping toasty on renewable fuel!
So are you going to own up ?

With all respect, you have at least two options: One is to put him on your banned list so you don't see what he writes (unless he gets quoted by someone else), or you can simply stop logging on to the forum. He has just as much right to post on here as you do. You can like it or not. If yoü opt for the second choice, you are sure to stop "getting fed up of disliking every single post".
Age is simply a matter of mind - age doesn't matter if you don't mind

Regards the talk of bans or restrictions, as Said is still let post here, then I wouldn't hold out too much hope!
What influence do you think it will have to advertise to The P that you are easily wound up?

After 11 years of reading the numerous comments on his pet subject, it's obvious that nothing will put him off voicing his views at every given opportunity, which he is perfectly entitled to do.
The amount of personal abuse he has had to endure is something else, yet he manages to take it all in his stride with good humour. The simple solution to discourage members from repeating the same old, same old, is don't give them any oxygen by responding to their threads. Without responses threads quickly drop off the first page. And don't respond to posts on other threads, don't give them a reason to continue the topic.
He will never be banned for simply voicing his opinions. In the past members have been banned for directing some pretty vindictive abuse at the PNP.

I don't feel I would have any objection to the person who is PNP, it's just their whole attitude to other vehicles on the road. It's their blinkered attitude to any transport on the highway apart from cyclists.
In PNP's eyes, they can do no wrong, and any faults and problems are down to any other vehicles that are on the road, usually cars.
If PNP could only take a more objective view I'm sure we'd all get along just fine.

Thing is, roadbike riders excepted, few everyday cyclists actually want to be on the same tarmac as traffic in the first place - I certainly don't! Many would far prefer to be on their own separate strip, safely away from motor vehicles.
When it comes to attitude, try cycling in traffic for a day or two. You'll soon discover there's plenty of bad attitudes amongst the motoring fraternity. From the way they drive/pass/cut-up riders, many seemingly have no time for cyclists and probably consider them all a b....y nuisance!
Until adequate investment is made to rectify the present unsatisfactory situation, I guess we're all stuck with each other. Cars whizzing past bikes at close quarters, knocking riders off, bikes being ridden on pavements to annoyance of pedestrians, etc.
