The subject is 'should MPs get massively subsidised meals when not feeding kids in poverty?'
As I pointed out on another thread - this simply is not true. The Government have made £63 million available to Local Authorities to address this, using - whatever means are appropriate locally - that's £43 million more than those stamping their feet over free school meals would have them spend.
Sefton are, or have announced they will be doing this.
There's plenty to gripe about with this Government but claiming they are refusing to feed kids in poverty simply isn't true.
It's a bit of a sidestep, the Government has given Councils extra money to cover costs associated with the pandemic not for school meals, many Councils are saying the money allocated is far from adequate and are running large deficits, no doubt when they tally up the Government will say the Councils have wasted it on unnecessary things and leave the Council Tax Payer to pick up the tab.

Give me strength! I know the money hasn't been provided with a big sign hung on it saying - DO NOT SPEND THIS ON ANTHING OTHER THAN SCHOOL MEALS.
The money has been provided so that Local Authorities, who - I think you will allow - are best placed to understand local needs can spend it on what's required.
An example was given tonight on Radio 4's news, of a Local Authority trying to tie in activities with the provision of meals. Our own Labour council is running an intervention itself using the funding.
If the money is inadequate why then were the 'kids are being starved by the Tories' wallahs demanding the Government spend £43 million less?
The argument doesn't stack up unless you see through all the virtuous hand wringing and see it for what it is, and that is another grubby element of the 'don't let's waste a good crisis' narrative.
It's not a sidestep, it's action but - there's no left wing agenda feeding headline in 'kids get fed' - is there?

I think the confusion arises from the current media reports describing the £63 million as being for business relief. I didn't think it was for other purposes. Since then I've seen other LA websites detailing how they will provide meals for children.

The money did have a big sign on it 'DO NOT SPEND THIS ON SCHOOL MEALS.'
..........the details of allocation of the £63 million across UK in early July, the instruction clearly states for 12 weeks & should not be used or duplicate Free School Meal vouchers
Excellent news in today's papers. The PM rang Marcus Rashford yesterday to tell him the government would be providing vouchers for free meals for kids over the Christmas holidays. And for the school holidays next year too.
A victory for Rashford and common decency. Once again, well done young man.
The children’s commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, said “I welcome these steps towards providing more free meals and healthy diets for children who need them and holiday activities. Families are facing hard times financially and this will help.”
The governments has done what they said they would do and fund via the Local Authorities Rashford had a courtesy call from Johnson to confirm this.
You do get the feeling Rashford is being used and patronised by the closet snowflake racists.
If he had been a white intellectually challenged footballer I don't think he would be getting the air-time it's frankly nauseating.
Frankly, what is nauseating is you seem to be unable to accept that Boris has had to do another tyre- burning U-turn in the face of Rashford's decent humanitarian campaign after the refusal of his MPs to do the right thing in that commons vote.
At least, in the end, the right thing has been done. The fact that it seems that this has upset you marks you out as one of the nasty types that are attracted to right-wing politicians.
Don't go to bed angry. Stay up and plot your revenge.

So he's been successful in this endeavour because he's black?
You racist turd.
I don't think he's intellectually challenged. He's bright enough to know what's wrong and right. He's intelligent enough not to doff his cap and grovel, rather he speaks truth to power.
As far as being 'used and patronised by closet racists', who is using him? Hungry kids? Poor families? And which racists? It seems the only one who has commented on his colour is you.
What's upsetting you, he got a phone call from the real Johnson, instead of the blow up Boris under your bed that you spaff over every night?
Go burn a cross and rage about those poor kids getting looked after. Slather yourself in hand gel first.

You do have some personal problems with opposing thoughts don't you?
Rashford by the way is on a "functional Maths and English Course" it might be better for you to try and think a little before you loose off your ill-considered invective.
He has been picked up and used as a talisman.
You should be having some consideration for him, the media will drop him like a stone when they have finished with him.
It wasn't so long ago Raheem Stirling had the medias ear.
