If time travel was to become a reality - what period in time would you think you would have liked to have lived in,or would move forward to?

Time travel can never be a reality.
The past has gone. The future doesn't exist.

True though would it not be wonderful if technology could produce a virtual reality travel back in time?

You could probably cherry pick several periods of history to live through, hindsight and rose tinted glasses and all that.
As for jumping ahead, not for me what happens if you arrive say in 10 years time and you no longer exist!

Yes, but would you go back and kill a young Hitler? Or Ian Brady?
Or *insert vile human's name of choice*?

A recurring thought of mine as a kid was that what if I could jump through time to the exact same spot, but there was a building there, or the sea had risen. Or there was just another person in the same spot. Or the land had risen / lowered.
Never could get on with time travel films after that.

Time travel
I'd love to be able to go back to the 1970's, take a couple of hundred quid with me, open a bank account in somewhere like Barclays or Natwest and then travel forward a bit, collect the interest and then keep doing that. There's a few things I want to buy but they're not available in this time period.
I could warn everyone about COVID 19 as well while I'm there.

Would you though, Hitlers (for discussion sake) descendant finds the cure for Covid-19, you go back in time and kill him so his descendants aren't born!
Another excellent TV series to watch 11.22.63 won't go into detail so as not to spoil it if you can find it to watch, but very apt for this thread and my point.

Excellent series. I'm a fan of Stephen King and his work doesn't always translate well to the screen, but I enjoyed that.
There was a little of that in the recent 'Lovecraft Country' series. And 'Travellers', though that got a bit tedious towards the end.
Yes, altering history to save millions of lives might end up killing millions more. Plus you have to have the capacity to actually kill someone. Even in the case of someone so evil, to physically bring yourself to do it is another thing.
I suppose going back and even being some time, causing someone to step out of your way or some such, could change history. So I'm guessing it never will be achieved.
Depends how you measure time, too. It isn't supposed to be one long line, is it?

You travel back in time to Downing St 1979 and you have a gun in your hand and SHE walks out of No10 you could save thousands of jobs and a hell of a lot of Industry. Wouldn't you pull the trigger especially if J.$aville was with her. You would have made a hell of a lot of happiness instead of the misery they both caused.

…case in point The Time Traveler's Wife (except the time traveller's point of arrival was not the point of departure). The time traveller meets his demise by appearing between his father-in-law (as I recall) and a stag the latter was hunting.
The character disappears and reappears unpredictably. His time travelling was an obscure function of highly emotional moments in his life! One amusing touch, his clothing did not time travel.

Good point! Every human throughout history must have sought the same value of life,, no matter what era they lived in.
