Islamophobia
President Macron has triggered protests all over the world for comments the protestors are calling 'Islamophobic'.
As far as I can make out, he's basically said that French law supersedes any religious law. That free speech, even if it is showing cartoons of the prophet, is part of French life. That girls are equal to and should be treated and educated the same as boys. France is a secular country.
And if you don't like it, move to a country where religious law comes first.
In my opinion, not only should every western leader support Macron, every western religious leader should too.
I don't think what he said was Islamophobic. The same should apply to any religion. What do you reckon?

No religious law of any description should supersede the national laws of any country, again anyone calling for supremacy or special consideration with regard to religion is in the wrong place.

Events in UK earlier this year come to mind. 'Non-European' parents protesting at schoolgates, about their kids being taught to respect same-sex couples, etc......They must have known what the score was, when they chose to migrate here - so why come if they don't want to be subject to our equality laws?

The loudest protests seem to be from Saudi, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh and Malaysia. All those places famous for their wonderful human rights and equality.
"Malaysia says it is “gravely concerned” over the “growing open hostilities towards Muslims following Paty’s brutal killing.
“As a matter of principle, we strongly condemn any inflammatory rhetoric and provocative acts that seek to defame the religion of Islam,” Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said in a statement."
Wasn't the murderer the one 'defaming Islam'?
Don't get me wrong, I'm equally dismissive of all organised religions, but a cartoon of Jesus doesn't generally lead to heads being hacked off, or mass murder.
I'm confident that the vast majority of our own Muslims would be more concerned about the poor man who died than boycotting French goods. But in some countries 'religion of peace' is an oxymoron.

You know I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Orwell said "If there is hope, it lies in the proles." Whilst champagne socialists see diversity idealised at university, the common folk experience it first hand in their neighbour hoods.

It's odd, but I still feel the need to tiptoe through this thread, the corrosive influence of the violent minority on free speech gets everywhere.
A religion that when left to rule brings in insidious and restrictive controls on people's lives should not go unchecked by all reasonable minded people.
Lets hope other Leaders don't shrink from supporting Macron so far they have, Johnson has been weak very weak we have the same problems that France has here.
The EU has given some limp wristed support.
Trump has stuck his boot in "Our hearts are with the people of France. America stands with our oldest Ally in this fight. These Radical Islamic terrorist attacks must stop immediately. No country, France or otherwise can long put up with it!”
but its not enough.
Erdogan is whipping up the radicals.

The sad truth is these rascals will get what they want eventually. The problem with living in a democracy is it is only any good if right thinking people are in the majority.
If Johnny white guy has 2 kids and each of his kids has 2 within about 45 years he has 6 decendants with the right to vote. If Ali akbar has 6 kids and each of them has 6 kids within about 50 years he has 42 decendants with the right to vote. Our grandkids will be beaten into submission at the polling booth. Maybe its time for a rethink on who is allowed a vote.

I agree however, I cannot help wondering what the reaction would be if, Muslims started ridiculing the Virgin Mary or Jesus Christ.

Hoped to avoid that kind of talk.
Skin colour is immaterial. Nor is it political. All the major parties in this country have people of all colours and cultures. The Tories had a co-chair from a Pakistani Muslim family. Labour has many Muslim MPs. It's about extremism.
It's a delicate area when discussing religion, particularly Islam. I'm not of the view British Muslims are a threat to anyone. If they were, I'd expect our leaders to say the same as Macron. Practise your religion, ten religions or no religion, but our law comes first.

They do frequently, everyone has the right to an opinion and the right to state that opinion, until it becomes deliberate hate or discriminatory and then progresses to destroying property and more importantly lives.
Europe has experienced the pleasures of religious rule long in the past, we don't have the slightest desire to go through that sort of evil again.

This sounds dangerously like the :Great Replacement: theory beloved by white supremacist louts. Maybe it IS time to rethink who is allowed to vote.... I'd start with Proud Boys, Bugaloos and their ilk.

I agree SF, with freedom of speech and the right to an opinion, but cartoons? The French did it once with tragic results so, they've done it again resulting in more tragedy. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound. Surely we (or the French) are better than that.

What I can't understand is WHY don't all these GOD'S get their heads together and sort this out.
Maybe they can't unless the puppeteer can work them all at once.
Religion is the result of some very clued up person thinking of a way to brainwash the populace and take all their money in their fear of a holy retribution but getting people to think they are going to be killed and rewarded with a bunch of virgins really is pushing the boundary of lunacy. No doubt the virgins will all be male not inferior females in this religion of peace.
