Paddle steamer on the beach front?
Are any contributors here old enough to remember a paddle steamer on the beach front? It was on Marine Drive just south of the pier by the old sea bathing complex where Ocean Plaza is now? It was a couple of storeys high and was housed in a shallow pool of water with a small bridge to gain access. I’m fairly sure it was a bar or a restaurant.
My parents used to drive past it countless times and it always fascinated me. I’m going back somewhere in the region of 40-45 years. Friends and family all think I’m mad and have no recollection of it. I’d be grateful for any further information with regard to its name, purpose, and whatever happened to it.
Edit- I’m definitely not confusing it with the later SS Manxman that lived at Preston docks. The one in Southport was a much much smaller vessel.

Yes I remember it. Would have been early 80s. Recall it as a kids attraction (mini fun-house type place) as I used to go in it rather than a bar or restaurant but there was a restaurant further along on the bathing lake car park called Pierrot's Cafe.
I've seen a photo recently on Facebook so will hunt it out.

Thanks so much! It makes much more sense being a kids attraction with its location. Maybe I was getting confused with its close proximity to Pierrot’s cafe. If you do find the photo, I’d be very grateful.

There's a paddle boat that used to do trips around the lake. It's moored near the Lakeside pub, or was the last time I was down there.
Probably not that one though.

It was a floating pub called the steam boat, right next to Peter pans .

Ahhhh Peter Pan's. I got lost for what seemed like hours in a strange room there, the exit was behind a mirror. Blast from the past. Good old pre covid days.
